Hello MOBAFIRE! Patch[10.12]
My name is Palestinian Luck and I am a 1 million Mastery Points Rank #1 Pyke OTP on the Server EUW. I started playing League of Legends at the end of Season 4 and have been OTP'ing Pyke since he came out. My peak has been Master 73LP and I am currently Master Tier. In this guide I will go a bit in-depth on his Abilities and Items and how to play with Pyke during the Laning Phase, Mid Game and Late Game.

Pyke is the first Mobile-Hook Champ which allows
him to have a big playstyle
Variety so it might
take you a few games to understand how his Abilities
synergize, but has a High
solo carry potential if

As stated, Pyke Has a big playstyle Variety but
has obvious weaknesses. If you are aware of the
weaknesses and master him slowly, you will not have
a real "counterplay" potential.

GIFT OF THE DROWNED ONES (Passive) Pyke health cannot be improved except through growth (per level). Instead, he gains (7.145% bonus health) bonus attack damage.

Pyke also stores 25-50% (depending on level) of the damage he takes from enemy champions as Grey Health on his health bar up to a maximum of 80 (+8.0 per bonus attack damage), with an upper cap of 60% of his maximum health.

When Pyke is unseen by enemies, he rapidly consumes his Grey Health to heal for the same amount.


The passive allows you to engage and disengage and regenerate alot of health

BONE SKEWER (Q)
Range: 400

First cast: Pyke charges for up to 2 seconds, increasing Bone Skewer's range. Pyke can still move while channeling but is pacified and slowed by 20%.

Second cast: After a brief delay, Pyke hurls his harpoon forward, dealing 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+ 60% bonus AD) physical damage to the first enemy struck, pulling them a fixed distance towards him and slowing them by 90% for 1 second.

Releasing the ability instantly causes Pyke to thrust his harpoon forward, dealing the same damage and slowing the nearest enemy, preferring champions.

If Pyke is interrupted during the charge, or the charge completes without reactivation, Bone Skewer is cancelled and the ability is put on full cooldown but refunds half the mana cost.

That Ability decides wether you gonna be a Gamechanger or Hardstuck dog division.

Pyke dives into spectral waters, entering camouflage and gaining 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60% (+ 1.5% per 1 Lethality) bonus movement speed decaying over 5 seconds.

Attacking or casting abilities immediately ends camouflage.

Stealth is one of the most abusable Kits you can have on a Champ
so make sure use it for surprise engages or to gain back your Health with . You can use all alone to pressure your Lane opponents by alerting them you might engage.

PHANTOM UNDERTOW (E)

Pyke dashes, leaving behind a drowned phantom.

After 1 second, the phantom returns to Pyke, stunning enemies it passes through for 1.25 seconds (+0.1 seconds per 10 lethality) and dealing 95 / 125 / 155 / 185 / 215 (+1.0 per bonus attack damage) physical damage to enemy champions.

Pyke dashes, leaving behind a drowned phantom.

After a 0.75-second delay, Pyke strikes all enemy champions in an X, blinking to and executing targets below 250-550 (based on level) (+0.8 per bonus attack damage) (+1.5 per 1 lethality) health while dealing 50% of the amount as physical damage to enemies not within the threshold for execution.

When an enemy champion dies in the X from any source, Pyke and an assisting ally both receive an additional Cut equal to full kill gold, and Pyke may re-cast Death From Below again within 20 seconds at no cost.

This ability decides if you gonna be the bill gates the team needs

If you catch someone with your ultimate your team gets a total of +900 gold
If you kill someone without any teammate participating you still get +600 gold
So every ult can decide you either gonna be full build min 20 or not

is probably the most aggressive (my favourite) rune you could run on Pyke
During lane it allows you to fast trade with the Enemy after you them. It's most effective against squishy opponents like Nami, Janna, or Soraka
I wouldn't recommend to pick it against more tanky opponents like Thresh or Leona since they 24/7 run which denys you the Maximum output of

Is the other MUST HAVE Rune you need on Pyke since Movement speed is the Threat that comes from Pyke
The faster you are, the faster you can Roam, Engage, Chase, Disengage without having any losses

is probably the most defensive (my less favourite) rune you could run on Pyke
During lane it allows you to trade longer with the Enemy after you or them. It comes most handy in Late-game since Pyke becomes very vunerable to Burst damage, which reduces.

Conclusion: I would recommend to pick if you are a beginner and try to get in touch with Pyke and his mechanics himself.
The Tree gets handy if you use a Keystone, otherwise I woudln't recommend picking it as a secondary tree since there are more useful one's than

The reason to pick is Dull. Since doesn't work on Pyke and doesn't scale well with Pyke because of his Problem... your only decision is to go for , it comes handy for Plates and some Rare splitpushes in late since scales with lvl too.

Bone plating

is the recommended rune to use on Pyke to lower the amount of poke on lane you might get from certain champions like Zyra, Janna, Lucian etc. when you try to do stuff. But it also increases the Chances in Late-game to survive from Burst damage from champs like Syndra, Zed since scales with lvl.

doesn't scale well since Pyke doesn't stack Hp with items.
is only useful early and falls in lategame since it doesn't scale well with Pyke because Hp yada yada

is recommended for the newcomer. Since if you know how to Manage your Mana output you won't have any mana problems with Pyke.

there aren't many runes which work well with Pyke from the Tree.
Thats why you Take for scenarios where you get on, but also a takedown which leads you to survive lethal Damage.

That the MUST HAVE on Pyke if you go for the secondary Tree since you don't stack Tenacity on Pyke unless you have which isn't always the case depending which Rune Combination you use.

I think some of you believe, that scales with your R but it doesn't.
And Pyke in generall doens't deal much damage since he is only an half assasin.

is the MUST HAVE on Pyke, since Vision Clearing always takes time and even put you in Danger, which Umbral glaive shortens. The best Combination to is since you clear the and gain new Vision. Always try to clear a in certain bushes before placing a so you get a maximum amount of Vision around the MAP. But be sure not to put yourself in Danger while Warding. This always can decide an Objective or the Game

is the other half of Pyke and Ideal item to boost Pykes Kit since MS and Lethality Scale on Pyke.
Try you use in Combination with your to gain the Maximum Speed while ganking a Lane or engage on the enemy in generall

People say be bad in s10 but ugh I won more games with than any other boots variation. After you bought it consider runnin down and try a midlane Gank. If you go botlane try to engage with your while the enemy has no vision and can be on only alerted with your sound

is the cheaper version of and became viable since it got buffed in s10 but is my less likely option but might work for you.

Gurdian Angel Is in most cases your last Item. Consider picking if you fear to get oneshotted/picked in late, but consider selling it once the passive of Gurdian Angel is down and you have leftover Money for another Full Item defense Item like , or

Try to hit the biggest threat with AA or abilities to prok the Passive of . If your fullbuild at minute 20 this build deals additional damage, but in late it gets to hard to pull down long term damage on single targets if they are in groups.

HOW TO PLAY THE LANING PHASE


Before starting Laning Phase Consider Invading the Enemy. If you guys have the stronger lvl 1 it's never bad to try it. Just make sure to skill nothing till you see the enemy, because in some scenarios they might stack and try to catch one of you (mostly you since you are the frontline) it's better to skill your and either dash in to get damage and cc on 5 opponents or dash out to secure yourself not using

During Laning Phase, you need to analyze and know if you can win against your Matchup. Considering your ADC is good and has a good follow up you engage after both of you hit lvl 2, try to engage with & + especially if they are still 1. With that tactic you at least are guranteed a or kill. But Considering your Matchup is bad and your ADC is is Garbage just try to stall the lane and make sure that your Ally Jungler needs help with Scuttle, Drake or Invades.
After you are around lvl 4-6 and bought start to roam.

ROAMING


There are many scenarios to start roaming as Pyke
Consider you wanna start moving from bot to mid you gotta watch the wave. If your wave is freezing or slowpushing towards the Enemy Tower, you shoudln't leave the lane since you puttin your ADC Ezreal in a disadvantage where he might start going for cs and has to fight 1vs2.
Leave the Lane when it's slowpushing towards Ally Tower or when your ADC Ezreal recalls.

Now you move to mid
Look out if the Enemy has Vision[Icon= on you, if there is an Enemy on river consider using W . If you got the Idea that the Enemy got Vison on you just go back to lane or recall fast so you don't miss out on exp.

Imagine both of you recalled and you just bought and the midlane wave is freezing .. consider trying a lane gank. Those kind of ganks are less expectable since the Enemy can't get Vision on you while you try walking towards them. You probably will get at least a Summoner or a Kill out of these Trades.

If you see midway that people start playing Defensive while you roam to mid/top and you afraid to lose to much exp.
WELL guess thats gonna happen sometimes.. in that case play it dirty and snack yourself some exp (a whole wave xd) from mid/toplane if you already there. Then move back to botlane or recall.
Bad Macro, but less worse than you walking around as River Pyke xd


Tips: If you have Grey Health and stand in a bush, there is definetly a .

If the Enemy starts to trade willingly against a Pyke while you have everything up consider their Jungler is ganking and back off.

HOW TO PLAY THE MIDGAME


During this Phase you at least have and .
Never forget playing Pyke makes you an Assasin but also a Support. With that beeing said you have to get Map control by starting getting Vison. Cause of it's much easier for you to destroy 's with that your come handy and let you have spare Controlward's you use for Deep vision

It's a Pyke thing to start abandoning your ADC 'cause your KIT is made for roaming. Start playing with your Jungler, get Objectives like or the Enemy Consider 3vs1 Ganks, play dirty and make the enemy say it's "supp diff", cause this the time where you most pop-off as Pyke.

HOW TO PLAY THE LATEGAME


In this Phase you slowly get less and less productive since anything you do as Squishy Pyke makes you more punishable than before, Long-term fights become None-existent for you. Start playing only with your team and secure objectives with and . It's 'bout you picking someone with your into your team and 'bout your team reduce their so you can finally . It's not wrong to do suicide combis like + to pick a strong enemy like their ADC since you can't provide much for your team anymore. They have to provide for you.
Always remember... "The Support win's the Lane, The ADC win's the Game" in that case for Pyke it's "winning everything for everyone, while your teammates destroy Nexus" you get the Idea.
