Champion Build Guide

[11.12+] Gwen - How to crush Solo-Queue

By xxxxzomb
Gwen is a newly released champion, and the meta and build may **** really fast. This is what I've tried and worked best for me in platinum elo so far. So please be aware that this guide might get outdated pretty fast, but overall you should really abuse her while you can in Solo-Queue.
Combos and Tricks
  • Your E is an auto reset, use it when cheesing lvl 1 and whenever you can
  • You can E while casting your R or Q, or vice versa
  • You can get all your R procs instantly by doing [R] [AA] [R] [E] [AA] [R], although I advise against it because you can't fully utilize the slow this way.
  • You can flash in your Q animation to follow up enemies, good for unexpected kills
  • Try to use your Q at 4 Stacks, if the damage is enough to finish the job you can also cast it before (this is self-explanatory but most people don't think about it)
  • Use [W] when disengaging a trade if your enemy has follow-up damage, if not use it while trading for the resistances
  • You still deal a lot of damage with Tabis and Bramble alone, use this to your advantage if they go full AD
  • When low, don't give up and keep pushing damage, you'll be surprised about how much you heal
  • Gwen is an amazing blind pick if you don't know what to play on the top lane, she has her counters, but playing smart gets you around that
  • You won't win lane every game, sometimes it is okay to just pick up a cull and get every cs you can get
Laning Phase
Always start E and look for all-ins. Combined with PTA, very few champions will be able to out damage you. If you're laning against a ranged champion, try to not get poked out and look for all-ins when they're out of position. At level 6, almost no one can 1v1 you if you are even in exp and have R up.

Play it slow, and don't force stupid trades that you can't win. You scale really well and will be able to solo carry if you get all of your core items.
How to play if you're ahead
When ahead, try to build your lead by taking your first turret and much platings as you can. Try to force Herald and take more platings. Gwen is really good at skirmishes and can snip her way through the front-line without getting damage because of her W.

You are really strong in the early and late game, but mid is where she can fall a bit off if she doesn't get too far ahead. Try to make picks in the enemy jungle, since no one can realistically 1v1 you if you're ahead as Gwen.
How to play if you're behind
Play it slow and don't take dumb trades. Give up as much cs as you need and try to stay in exp range. Only step up for cs if all the threats were located on the mini-map and you're safe.

Try to play on the opposite side of the map where the enemy is and try to get your core items by only csing or cleaning kills. After that, you'll be pretty much back in the game.

If your team happens to be ahead, don't int and just get carried. Really.
Powerspikes
You have several powerspikes:

[Level 1] most of the time you'll be able to all in at lvl 1 and win the trade

[Level 2] E combined with Q deals massive damage, and people are most likely to underestimate it

[Level 6] R + Ignite allows you to kill everything, just make sure the enemy is a bit extended so you can run them down the lane

[Nashors] Damage damage damage

[Nashors + Cosmic + Rift] Try to terrorize the other lanes, only few champions will be able to keep up with you
Mid Game
In the mid-game, you'll likely fall off a little. Focus on your lane and extending your lead by denying the enemy jungler camps and try to push side lanes. Don't commit for stupid fights until you have your 3-Item-Powerspike. And don't fall behind in lvl because you're roaming too much.
Late Game
Wait until you get the perfect time to strike. Using your W and E you can also pretty much walk past the front line and instantly kill the carries, flanking is the better option though.

Look for cheesy bush plays or split-push if your team can't win fights.
