When I had this independent discovery of AP Renata I also played around with it.
It turns out it can be OP as bricks if played around properly (easiest with duo).

My recommendations for things I do differently to your guide are:
Deathcap 2nd instead of 3rd, leave Shadowflame for 3rd as AP is more valuable (I'm 99% sure this is the correct way).
Don't consider building Lichbane or Stormsruge.
PTA is OK but Lethal Tempo is better and so is Hail of Blades (especially if you are playing it with Amumu).
Absolute focus > Manaflow Band in secondary runes (You do not need the mana).
Sometimes Ghost is better than Heal/Exaust (not if you're playing it with Ivern tho).
Void Staff might as well be core after Shadowflame (its a bit too mandatory).

Everything else looks to basically be the same so far, as I do think Amumu/Lulu and Ivern have the strongest synergy with this pick.

I also considered Deathcap second instead of third! Glad to have someone else confirm for me.
Absolute Focus instead of Manaflow Band is also a good idea, but I prefer Mana because I'm not very good at managing mine.
My preferred Keystone is PtA because I often find myself having too much Attack Speed for my allies to proc properly unless they're playing something like Brand.

May I ask what's your Elo?

Amazing guide! Just a couple questions, I assume you ban caitlyn since she can freely harass you, which makes Renatas bad early game even more miserable. Also would you ever consider going everfrost into high mobility comps? Finally, after nashor + mythic, if enemies start stacking MR (like negatron and hexdrinker) would you go void 3rd, or would rabadon still out preform.

I really enjoy this playstyle of renata because I feel like her passive is EXTREMELY under appreciated, as you become a mini ap varus. Its just frustrating sometimes because this is more of a duo pick, and not really solo q friendly, since nobody seems to know how renata's kit works, but will blame you for building nashors tooth.

I'm too mathematically stupid to calculate when Void Staff outperforms Rabbadons, (especially because BOTH the HP and MR of the enemy are factors,) but I like Rabbadons better compared to Void Staff because it has the added benefit of helping your waveclear.

Everfrost is theoretically an option, but you ideally want to be positioned in a way that you won't have to use it. And also because it would be an added layer of complexity compared to Crown which already keeps you safe from assassins.

gotcha, also how do you go about into double poke lanes, do you just farm under tower while hoping jg can gank for you?

Currently working that out. Someone suggested going Fleet Footwork. I think your E shields you well against poke already. Runes are kind of a difficult question because I don't want to sacrifice too much of her late-game fantasy to make her early game more playable.
