Champion Build Guide

[26.03] Talon Top Lane

By Bourne212
Introduction
Hello, My IGN is Mrgrgr#NA, I believe I picked up Talon sometime in Season 8/9. This is a guide I mostly made for myself to referance and update over time, I would only play Talon in Top Lane at your own risk.
Talon Top Lane General Infomation

Playing Talon in Top Lane requires lots of match-up knowlage and early team coordination to be effective, you won't be able to create as much impact on the map in Top Lane by yourself compared to Mid Lane in the early game. It's also much more punishing early if you get behind in Top Lane.

Although playing Talon in Top Lane can have it's advantages, In Top Lane you can create immense map pressure thoughout the game with your E (Assassin's Path) since you are able to side lane more consistantly and you open up your Mid Laner to be able to play a mage which will guarantee mixed damage for your teams composition. Although keep in mind you may run into the occasional issue of having no frontline if your Jungler & Support choose to play other classes since it's usually expected for the Top Laner to play a frontliner.

Talon can usually always get early priority for Grubs, as well as arrive at top river skirmishes/jungle invades before the enemy Top Laner because of his early wave clear with his W (Rake) and map traversal speed with his E (Assassin's Path).

You can create immense map pressure in mid to late game since your Mid Laner can take the role of being present for most objective fights instead. As the Top laner you can choose to split side lanes instead of feeling pressured to be at every fight, this way you don't have to potentially leave your team in a 3v4 if you choose to apply this strategy.

Comparatively in Mid Lane you would be expected to be at almost every fight or risk leaving your team at a disadvatage, be careful applying the split push strategy if the enemy Top Laner has Teleport. If it's off cooldown the enemy Top Laner can Teleport and put your team in a 4v5, where if you were the Mid Laner you would typically already be at the fight by the time both Top Laners arrived.

Try to keep in mind when the enemy Top Laners Teleport is on cooldown to get the most value out of this strategy, you can also choose to split a lane near the objective. This way you have the choice to move to the fight within a reasonable amount of time if the enemy Top laner does have Teleport available, ideally you would split near the objective every time if possible.

With the intoduction of the Top quest, this strategy becomes a bit easier since you can split further away from the objective or use your Teleport to match the other Top laners Teleport.
General Mid/Late Game Strategy
(Generally you rinse and repeat the follwing strategy below every game)

The idea in Mid/Late Game is to push in a side lane, then move toward your team to set up a flank if they are posturing for a fight. Otherwise you would contine your push and pull a member of the enemy team to that part of the map giving your team a more even playing field. This is especially good if you manage to pull the enemy Top Laner and their teleport is on cooldown as you can leave once they arrive and move toward your team to set up a fight with a man advantage.

(Expect to potentially have a lot of deaths in this role. Primarily if you're running the Fighter build, because of the nature of how you will need to play in fights with that build. You will likely be extended fighting with your team and be in the front or middle of the fights in most cases.)
Conclusion
If anyone does end up playing Talon in the Top Lane and stubbles upon this guide, I hope it helps. I gained a lot of knowlage from a guide made by Fwii. Fwii consistantly got challanger playing Talon before they stopped playing.
The guide below is outdated but still holds very valuable information on how to play Talon fundamentally in much more detail than mine, please check out their guide if your interested in that.
