Taric as of now is one of the strongest supports due to his full team invulnerability as well as building ardent will leave your entire team with the sensor buff. Not many of the support of the current meta can beat him due to his kit.

If any of the high damage supports get chosen against you (Brand, Vel Koz or veigar), Taric can be weak because of his short range and inability to answer back. Now as these mage supports aren't picked too often at the current state, I personally would either ban the most popular or not choose taric if the threat is looming.

I personally never thought to choose Taric until I gave him a try at the end of season 7. I always thought he was a weaker support due to his lack of popularity as well as thoughts of the old Taric (the lock on stun). When I first gave him a try I loved him and played a total of 75 games with a 70% winrate on him right as the end of the season approached. I continue to play him with the new runes and changing meta. Hope you enjoy him as much as I do!
