I would argue that barrier is as viable, and maybe better, than heal in mid lane. Although it does not give the speed boost, heal is less effective if your opponent ignites you before you think to use it, and most mid-laners carry ignite.

An items section would probably be a good idea. I don't feel like Zhonya's Hourglass is a necessary item in all matchups and honestly I think that it's less effective on a ranged mage champ like Lux than it is on champions like Fizz or katarina (which typically use it to buy time for their E's to get off CD, also they dive into the enemy). Furthermore sometimes it's better to lay off the 40% CDR and just buy one of the CDR items if the opponent is going with lots of MR (if, say, your team is AP heavy) because sorc's shoes won't be enough to get through enough damage- might want to pick up a void staff.

I use Zhonya's in every game, solely because Lux is often the target of gap closing AD champs like Master Yi. You only need a second or two of protection to invalidate the vast majority of his burst, at which point you can get at least one burst off yourself (sometimes two, since Yi's cooldowns are fairly high while Lux's are very much on the low side).

It's not a priority until the mid-game, when the assassins come out to play in force, but it does help out a lot since you're going to be the focus for a lot of ganks, especially if you're up against a mage like Annie or Ryze.

Hey King McBean,
I know this is just a general guide, but I want to point out some things that will maybe change your view- or just understand other people's view
1. I think that Zhonya's is great, but you shouldn't need it unless you're out of position or there's a scary matchup. You say you like movement speed, which will help greatly with getting into position. The only times I take Zhonyas are for situational times: A fed Karthus and you need Zhonyas for his ult, Zed ult, Fizz Ult, etc.
2. I agree with the 45%CDR, however, there are alternatives. I like getting precision personally because I am very aggressive and like to use my spells and autos interchangebly- meaning the armor and magic pen would benefit me. However, I think that getting both Athenes and Morello's is a waste. I would choose one or the other. If you really want that max cooldown, there are other alternatives:
a. Put CDR in your runes
b. Get boots of lucidity (you would NEED void staff)
This gives you an extra slot for another damage item!

Hello, thank you for the input I shall reply:

1. I do agree with barrier > heal, with most mid laners probably will take ignite, it will effectively counter your heal. You are 100% correct here I think.
2. Maybe someone like Fizz, Katrina, Karthus, Fiddlesticks could make use of Zhonya's more. However, I think it is still good to take it in case someone does get to you. I cannot tell you how often it was when I was just in trouble from a Vi coming for me (or ect.) then I zhonyas to wait for my cool downs then when I come out of zhonyas my cool downs are done I can dish out my snare + damage. Also, this is a general guide so it must be very simple and clean. The way i learned League was writing down the skill order and items on a piece of paper and blindly followed that until I learned the game, it was a very good way to start playing. So i basically had the same 6 items every time i played, which i know is bad but who cares at the beginning, at least I didnt have an infinity edge on singed haha.
3. I believe you do the need the 45% CDR, especially with the mastery you take which allows you to have 45% you should be as efficient as possibly, why get something that allows you to take 45% CDR when your not gonna capitalize on that. Also you need the mana regen from both items together or you run out so fast. The holy grail does do most of the mana regen work though.
4. maybe take void instead of echo but this is just a general guide and i enjoy the movement speed the item gives you, and it helps you with mobility when it comes to team fighting.
