I am playing LoL for a while now, and Teemo is my second char, but I just love him. I used Mobafire to learn how to play with him and it helped a lot to give me a good grasp on how to approach a build for him.

Teemo Skills

If Teemo stands still and takes no actions for 3 seconds, he becomes stealthed indefinitely. After leaving stealth, Teemo gains the Element of Surprise, increasing his attack speed by 40% for 3 seconds.

This is an excellent ambush tool. Bear in mind, you are not stealthed when you use recall.


Deals 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 (+80% of ability power) magic damage and causes the target to miss all of their attacks for 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 seconds.

Cooldown 12 seconds | Cost 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 mana | Range 680

This will always be the first attack upon an opponent and it will never be used agains minions. Mana is very important and Teemo's spells usually consumes a lot of it, so try not to get rid of it so easily.


Toggle: Teemo's movement speed is increased by 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35% until he is struck by an enemy champion or turret.

Cost 40 mana | Range 20

This skill should be always on. It does not consume so much mana but you have the ability to cover the map a lot faster then anyone else. It also gives you the chance to give the first shot in a fight.


Teemo's basic attacks poison their target, dealing 8 / 14 / 21 / 28 / 35 (+14% of ability power) magical damage upon impact and again each second for 4 seconds.

Range 1

This a fantastic passive. I draw so many kills with it and it always made me feel good. Every standard shot poisons the target and reduces that frustrating 20 hp from a running enemy to nothing.

Places a trap which detonates if an enemy steps on it, poisoning nearby enemies. Poisoned enemies take 350 / 500 / 650 (+80% of ability power) magic damage and have their movement speed slowed by 30 / 40 / 50% for 4 seconds. Traps last 10 minutes.

Cooldown 20 seconds | Cost 75 / 100 / 125 mana | Range 230

The mushroom is the most terrifying nightmare for enemies as it inflicts a whole lot of damage in a 4 second interval of time. It is invisible and they have to buy wards to be able to see it. Mushrooms are used in many ways I will explain later on.

What should we prepare for when taking Teemo?

First thing you must have in mind is that Teemo is about speed. He is very squissy so your main goal is to kill your opponent before he has time to inflict damage to you. You have to move a lot on the lane and try to hit your opponent as much as possible without you being hit. Teemo is a very good farmer, so try and kill as many minions as possible to be able to buy items quickly. As for his build, go for a mix AP and AS.

Summoner's Spells

1. Flash
Even though Teemo moves very quick, flash is a must of spells. Flash instantly teleports Teemo in the direction of the mouse a significant distance. It is useful to get out of nasty situations or to catch up someone with low Hp just to make the kill. Flash can be used to teleport through walls.

2. Ignite
Ignite is a DoT which inflicts damage according to your level. It is very useful in this build as, when it is on cooldown, you earn +10 AP. It also serves the purpose of getting assists if needed.

Mastery Tree

Teemo is an assasin, so I will show you how to build him as one. In the mastery tree, you should go for offensive talents and try to have all those which imply AP and AS. Burning Embers should be taken only if you have summoner spell Ignite (which I stronlgy recommend), otherwise, it is a waste of one talent point.

For the remaining points, try to go for something which will help your mana. Health is not a real issue to Teemo: he either kills his opponent and lives to tell it or dies with great honor (Star Trek fan :D)


Even though many suggest starting with Dorians Ring or Dorians Blade, I think this is just a waste of gold. Later on you will sell it to open the spot for other real items and at the beginning, that plus of little stats that are given, can easily be obtained by you having a good micro and staying out of the range of the opponents.

My suggestion is that you start with Boots of Speed and some couple of potions. Mana Potion is important at the beginning as it will aid you not to recall base so fast.

Try to stay on the lane as much as possbile and return somewhere to level 8 or 9. Then, you should have enough money to buy Sorcere's Shoes and a Dagger and an Amplifying Tome. This items will later on serve to buy Malady. Many say that this item is useless but I disagree with them. Indeed, Stark's Fervor is better because of the aura which gives health regen, attack speed and lifesteal but we want to make Teemo fast and dangerous. I would sacrifice the health regen for improved attack speed (50%).

After buying Malady, head for Guinsoo's Rageblade. It's passive increases your attack speed a lot and it stacks 8 times out of basic attack. This is a cheap item and a very useful one.

Nashor's Tooth is the single item on this build which is everytime in my backpack. It gives you the so needed mana regen, which later in the game (level 15, 16) is imperious. It also reduces the cooldowns by 25%, making your Blinding Dart even more powerful. It also increases your attack speed by 50%, turning you in an assasin.

Next, you should focus into buying Madred's Bloodrazor. In every game of LoL, with any player you choose, you should have a surviability item. In this case, Madred's Bloodrazor is the key. It inflicts damage according to the amount of life the hit opponent has. Tanks go down so fast when you have this item. It also turns you, as I like to say, into "Uzi mode". It gives you 40% attack speed and you will shoot down towers and minions like nothing you ever seen.

The last item you buy is rather your choice. After having this 5 items, you really need to look at the opponents and see if you want some magic resist to make yourself less vulnerable or you just want to pawn them very neat and fast. My recomendation is to go with Rod of Ages. It gives you a lot of health, mana and AP. It really makes you tougher and gives you better damage. Yet, this is your choice.

NOTE: this kind of build can be used against almost any opponent team, but some changes should vary accordingly to the situation. In case the other team has many tanks, I suggest going for Madred's Bloodrazer as second item after Sorcere's Shoes. Then buy the other items.

NOTE: if you think you cannot handle oppoenents very well because of your low health, go for Stark's Fervor, but bear in mind, your attack speed will be lower and will have an impact on your mid game.

Early Game Play Strategy

In the early game part, you must pay great attention not to get hit. Well, if you get hit, that's that, but try not to get low on HP so much. You must stay on the lane as much as possible. Try to harass your enemy as much as possible. Lay hits on him and retreat. Do not engage unless you are absolutely sure you kill him. Dying before reaching level 6 is very hard to cope with later but it does not represent a defeat. Try to farm as much as possible, killing minions with low hp every time.

NOTE: use Camouflage to get stealthed in the middle of the lane. Wait until your opponent goes behind you and then ambush him throwing everything you got at him.

Mid Game Strategy

When you reached mid game, you probably got a turret down or just killed some of your opponents, so you have some items on you. Now it is up to you to lay good hits on the enemy and just kill him. You should deploy mushrooms as much as possible also.

Mushrooms are very useful to cover the map, just to have control of where your enemies are. Plant mushrooms in the bushes, along the water path, near Nashor. Because they last 10 minutes, you would have a lot of good time, knowing where they are. Also, when they are retreating, they could be low on Hp and stomp over one and die...

You should always study your opponent and see where they like to move. Stack mushrooms on that place so you can inflict damage every time he goes there. Use mushrooms for your strategical retreat: when running away, go over where you planted them, and they will get slowed by them ,giving you time to hide or just go base.

As far as I am concerned, never use mushrooms to kill minions. It's a totally waste to do so. Plant them out of the way of the minions.

Late Game Strategy

In late game, you have to know your role in team ganks. Stay behind and be the last to engage the enemy as your HP doesn't help you so much. Bear in mind, usually Teemo is the first target in a gank because he inflicts a lot of damage fast. So, take care and use any means necessary to stay alive and also, to inflict damage. You should solo turrets easily, just with a few minions after buying Madred's Bloodrazor. Talk to your team to draw attention away from a turret while you destroy it.

When reaching the enemy base, plant mushrooms in there. Your team can use it to teleport on them and help you very quickly. If you are pinned down in your base, plant mushrooms at the base of your turret to defend it. Even if a minion steps on it, the DOT will inflict over near enemies also.

Last Words

Teemo is a char which has no mercy if played well. Play it neat and calm and the opponents will go crazy and surrender before even reaching the base. Just stick to the basics: go AP and AS and always plant mushrooms in strategical points.
