Another One Bites The Dust - Top Urgot guide

By IvaoManeirao
Introduction
Hello, my name is Ivo and i'm a brazillian player that started playing back at season 2 but only actually became a regular player at season 5. I started playing ranked at the end of season 8 and became an Urgot main at the start of season 9, i've amassed over 150 games with Urgot with a whopping 61% winrate and have a lot of matchup knowledge, so i hope i can share my experience with you. If you want more specific matchup tips feel free to hit me up at Discord: ivão maneirão#9898 here's my OP.GG (yes, i know that my Riven is abysmal, don't even mention it) https://br.op.gg/summoner/userName=Iv%C3%A3o%20Maneir%C3%A3o

IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS I PLAN ON MAKING A MASSIVE OVERHAUL ON THE GUIDE, FEATURING DETAILED MATCHUPS AND MORE!
Recent Changes
So, the recent changes on Conqueror affected Urgot a lot, way more than one might think at first glance, mainly because:
1. It was his main rune, and now he can't use it effectively
2. Other champions got better by using it (like Aatrox)
Because of this, Urgot's matchups and overall build style/path changed a lot, especially since he now uses PTA.
Right now the smartest choice is to go Doran's blade because of the early game potential and lifesteal and rush Vampiric Scepter for the aditional lifesteal - after this the build goes on as normal.
EDIT:
Now that Riot has officially crossed the line and made tanks the meta in top lane, Urgot is probably in a tiny bit different spot than before - though tanks mean that you will kill less with your Ult since it depends on HP percentage (and tanks have a ton of HP), it still means that your Passive will deal more damage since it deals 5% max hp damage on hit.
overall, you'll have to play a bit less aggressive as Urgot as of now.
Runes
So, all of the Conqueror changes affected Urgot a lot this preseason - first the removal of True damage but increased healing actually helped him a lot since he doesn't need the true damage part that much and that extra healing was much appreciated, however, the recend ranged nerf affected him a lot, decreasing the healing to 8% of damaged caused, which is actually less than the old Conqueror, that used to heal in 10% of damage caused.
However, this doesn't mean that Conqueror became an unviable rune for Urgot, it just means that it's priority dropped - so now you'll have to analyze your matchup to see if it's worth it or if you should just go PTA instead.
Overall, i think that PTA will become Urgot's main runes, while Conqueror will be prioritized in certain matchups like Riven, Fiora, etc, but only time will tell, and i'll need to test further.
Overall, i say you should pick PTA against Tanks and Bullies and Conqueror against tricky bruisers that tend to build health steal.
Properties
So, as i've hinted throughout the guide, Urgot has some important combos that i'll teach in depth here in this section, but before i'll give some tips and explanations to some of his properties.

Urgot's E - Disdain, is, like i've said before, the most important skill on his kit, and the main ability of all of his combos, it has one really important property: It can't be cancelled - that means that even if you get rooted, knocked up or even stunned when you've already casted it (which i'll refer to "buffer" from now on, a fighting game term) you'll still dash and throw enemies behind you. This property is essential to matchups like Darius and Mordekaiser because you can just nullify their engages completely and come out unharmed, it also saves you when you need to engage against enemies that have dangerous stuns like Pantheon.

Urgot's R - Fear Beyond Death applies a good amount of damage and a slow effect on the enemy that is hit by it.

Urgot's W - Purge lessens his range by a bit, decreases his individual autoattack damage and slows him down when attacking

Urgot's passive - Echoing Flames does AOE damage, which can push the wave too much

With this out of the way, it's time to explain Urgot's two main combos.
Combos
E + Flash: This combo is amazing as it has 3 main purposes: Escaping ganks, since you can buffer your E and flash behind the enemy jungler, getting a free dash out; finalizing enemies that flashed away, and last but not least engaging on ranged champions that would otherwise kite you, it also has a really big surprise factor as it's really difficult to react to it. Use and abuse this to get free kills or to avoid being ganked due to your low base mobility.

E + R: This is a really important "combo" that people often forget to use, and i'll throw in an early tip for you along with it: Don't trust your Ult too much. It's really easy to miss it and relying on it to kill enemies will get you caught off guard by things like heal, QSS, Fiora's W, GP's orange and etc. With this out of the way, there is a way to guarantee your ult, which is by hitting your E on an enemy and then instantly ulting 180 degrees from the position of the enemy, A.K.A, behind you, by doing this you will get also the slow effect from your ult, which will make it even easier to finish your enemies, this combo isn't fool proof as when grabbing opponents from certain positions their position at the end of the grab can be a bit weird, resulting in a missed ult - the only way to prevent this is by experience and/or delaying your ult a little bit to make sure that you'll hit, however, this makes you susceptible to missing due to flash and/or dashes.
Tips & Tricks
here are some Urgot tips to help you:

-Do not spam your Q in laning phase: It might not look like it, but Urgot has a relatively small mana pool, and spamming his Q will result in you running out of mana really fast. DO NOT USE HIS Q AS AN POKE ABILITY! It's meant to catch enemies that are trying to run away and such, and not as an lane bully skill! Always keep that in mind.

-Be wary of your passive: Especially in the initial levels, your passive will play a huge role in how you'll manage your wave and if you'll be able to trade propely, always try to farm from a legless position to avoid unnecessary pushing and always try to keep the legs that are facing away from the opponent on so you can use them after hitting Disdain.

-Avoid trades: Urgot has a underwhelming early game since his W duration starts off as really small, it's way better to keep poking and harassing your opponent by abusing his ranged nature than to engage in small trades to lower the enemy's health.

-Don't get trigger happy with your W: As i've explained in the properties section, your W give you an slow and has weaker indivitual attacks, so don't keep it always on and don't count on it to finish fleeing enemies; if your enemy is slightly away from your W range, never forget to turn it off to avoid getting slowed and increase your range.

-Be careful about ganks: Although Urgot has an innate ability to 1v2, it's not easy neither recommended to deliberatly do so - remember that you are really big and slow which makes you extremely gankable, and even though i taught you the E + Flash combo earlier that doesn't mean that it's good for you to burn your flash. Always beware of the minimap and try not to get too close to the enemies tower without knowing the enemy jungler's position.
