I see allot of ADC going for mostly damage, crit, and lifesteal. Sure they hit like a Mack truck, but their attacks are slow, and only effect 1 target at a time. Squishies die quick, and the tanks negate much of the damage. This build still allows you to kill the squishies quickly, while at the same time doing damage to the tanks meaning they have less hp when you do get to them.
The times I have ran Hurricane and didn't have as much attack speed, it didn't work out so well. So I haven't really played ADC after trying it. After playing with Cait how ever I tried this build the first time I played her, and the high attack speed really made the Hurricane worth while.
Hurricane
-Clears minion waves much faster due to bolts
-attacks multiple enemies during team fights, resulting in more overall damage to be dealt to enemy team
-much higher attack speed boost allows for your attacks to go flying sooner, along with more bolts
Phantom Dancer
-Takes a little longer to clear a wave
-Allows you more crit, and a bit more movement speed, but still restricted to attacking 1 enemy at a time.
-lower attack speed, resulting in more time taken to do damage until you get a crit.
Is Phantom Dancer better? ya, if you're going for a high AD lower AS build. For my build how ever Hurricane works very well, and I find it more effective then Phantom dancer.
Say I'm doing 200 at a 1.5 attack speed. In 5 sec my main target takes about 1400 damage. 2 other targets take about 700 damage each. That's a total of 2800 damage in the first 5 sec on a team fight, and even with just Bloodthirster at full stacks I get healed about 672.
But with the Phantom Dancer, lets say that 1 of those attacks was a crit at 200% damage. 1 target takes 1600 damage. And that's all that is done in the 5 sec if I don't use Q. and only healed 384.
So yes Phantom Dancer may allow me to do more damage to 1 target, but Runaan's Hurricane allows me to damage multiple enemies at once, resulting in even higher over all damage in a team fight. This became evident the other day when I mowed down a Xin, and Akali who were trying to solo a tower. I killed both of them before they could get my tower because of the bolts from the Hurricane. Where if I had had just a Phantom dancer, they would have gotten the tower and then possibly one of them turned around and bursted me down.
I can see how many would look at Runaan's Hurricane and think "that's not worth having, those bolts are **** and a waist of gold" Well if you were building heavier AD, and the only AS item you had was Berserker Boots and Phantom Dancer, then ya I can see how those bolts wouldn't be worth much. You aren't sending them out quickly enough. How ever with this build you end up with just over 300 AD, and around a 2.0 AS. At that rate of fire those 2 bolts add up a ton of damage in the team fights.
As for the masteries, I will try that. I was actually using a Mastery build I got from another guide. But now that I think about it, a 21/9/0 or a 21/8/1 sounds like it will probably be better.
P.S. The numbers were all theoretical, and not actual damage done in a team fight.
-BUT-
It's not a good item over-all because it provides nothing but AS and 2 minor bolt that deals useless damage.
Had you use that 2750 gold to buy a Phantom Dancer that's 2800 instead, you would have benefit so much more from your money as it adds to your crit chance and move speed on top of AS increase.
0.66% move speed when out of combat is 2.64 even with 400 MS ~_~
3 Mana regen per 5 = 0.6 per sec. And you not even an AD caster so you should not be wasting your mana in any case.
