I've been trying doran blade start on Ryze too in S3 partly to make up for his terrible AA damage which gives me trouble in csing. I used to go 4-2-24 for Recovery but considering using Feast in the offensive mastery since it gives the same amount of health for killing a unit which theoretically can give heal for more than 2HP/5 I think. I am also thinking of 9-0-21, completely dropping the AP in offense though and going for AD instead as I don't think 12 AP in level 18 (or 6+ early game) would help Ryze that much.

i think you should take the 4% extra mana in the utility tree, that makes u spend atleast 15 points there

I dunno. I think 21/0/9 isn't terrible on ryze now. Still doing research

^ i go for the tier one cdr/(all ranks) and double-edged sword in offense and get utility stuff for the rest(i don't think that the dafense you could get from the points left after 4 offense and 21 utility is worth it, so i get more deep utility stuff.
downvote from me, because no flash+what the others said

Played correctly, you don't need all this cheese to dominate your lane.

True true, but I am so lost for ryze's S4 masteries.....Like do you still do 9/0/21 with the AP? But that sucks cause magic pen was the only reason to take those 9 points in offense....9 points in defense? Then you're absolutely worthless for damage...orrrrrrrrrrrr 21 points in offense so you do get the hybrid pen but not the awesome utility stuff? WHAT DO??

Speaking of which, you don't mention anywhere in the guide which lane you play this build in, top or mid. It's just, disgustingly suboptimal. 5th/6th RoA? You're nutso.

The classic approach to ryze is just that; classic. With skillful trading, you can HANDILY dominate any mid opponent. And protip, I sometimes take hybrid pen marks mid with Ryze against melee opponents like diana and gragas and zed :)

to be honest i only tried this in normal games so far and so i owned around 10 matches in a row, i consider it as a complete viable build. at first i also was sceptical about replacing Frozen Heart with Iceborn Gauntlet but it turned out fine and with the slow + extra AD Dmg after every spell i could hunt down anyone i caught out of position.

thanks for your opinion though, i will try some variations!!

*Edit: Changed the masteries:
-1 Sorcery, +1 Bandit
-1 Summoner's Insight, +1 Warlord

I kinda like this idea but I think you're taking it too far....Your auto attacks are very powerful in the early laning phase, but I don't believe you should continue building AD items and relying on autos lategame.
  • The hybrid pen marks are great, and I kinda like the doran's blade concept.

  • Your seals are pretty ****py, you want either flat armor or in some cases scaling HP. The 4 mana seals aren't that important and scaling armor is just inferior to flat.

  • Your masteries are bleh, if we're going for the early game auto poke here then use 9/0/21 with the CDR and AD in offense, and all the CDR, mana, and especially Bandit in utility.

  • I think that after laning phase you basically want to abandon the whole AD auto attack thing since this is where Ryze really takes off as a combo mage. You'll want the early tear of course, but it should be built into Archangel's Staff instead. Rod of Ages should be your first completed item, not your last. Frozen Heart is 100% must build on Ryze, the only question is at what point do you need that armor. Spirit Visage > Abyssal Mask due to ****ty AP scaling and the fact that visage buffs your spellvamp.

  • So example item build: Doran's Blade> Tear of the Goddess> Rod of Ages> Sorcerer's Shoes> Frozen Heart> Archangel's Staff> Spirit Visage>Situational 6th item

This is a really cool idea that actually might be viable, but once again I think you're taking it too far. The autos should be the focus of your laning phase but you should transition into traditional Ryze for mid-late game.

Edit: I would really like to hear some veteran's opinions (*cough* throatslasher *cough*) on the whole doran's blade, hybrid pen, AD masteries thing because it actually seems pretty legit to me, but what do I know!
