How to Play Chaser/CD Commander Amumu:

As CD Amumu you will find that near late game you become THE BEST chaser in the game (something Sunfire Amumu doesn't do), a great carry, doing about the same damage as a Sunfire Amumu(slightly less), having an increased health and mana regen (also something Sunfire Amumu doesn't have), and will be just as durable as a Sunfire Amumu.

The reason your are THE BEST chaser in the game, is because you will have a 1 second stun available every 4 seconds. Yep, with your 48% cooldown reduction your even able to spam BANDAGE TOSS. This means your enemies will be stunned for 1 second, run for 3 seconds, then stunned for another second. And on top of that Randuin's Omen slows all nearby enemies by 35% for 3 seconds(fits perfectly in that gap), and Shurelya's Reverie speeds up all nearby teammates by 40% for 3 seconds (once again wonderful fit). So for 9 seconds your enemy will either be slower than your whole team, or not moving at all.

As for the commander part. I put that in their to show that your most of your items benefit your entire team or else Harm the entire enemy team. Allowing you to control the flow of battles.

Early Game be sure to not waste too much mana on bandage toss and tantrum until you have the mana cooldown with the Philosopher's Stone. However using despair to farm minion groups should be balanced with mana conservation. (only do this when your enemy is harassed enough to not attack you)

Sunfire Cape Nerf:

Recently Riot Games decided to Nerf the Sunfire cape, which many tank builds (especially Amumu) relied upon. I think that it was a good idea, mainly because most builds went something like: Boots -> sunfire -> sunfire -> sunfire -> sunfire -> sunfire -> merc treads, and this new nerf will bring out more build ideas.

My build Primarily focuses on early survivability (the area that sunfire Amumu seemed to lack), armor, health, and cooldown reduction time.

Skill Points Build:

Early game you want Tantrum and Bandage Toss in order to do Amumu's main combo move. (Bandage Toss then Tantrum), for harassment, early ganking, or going in for a kill.

Despair is by far an Amumu-Tank's best ability. While being able to take massive amounts of damage with stacked armor and magic resistance, he can wither away at opponents who have even the largest amounts of health. You will max this first. If you jungle, grab this first.

Bandage Toss doesn't help too much after you get the stun. At least not compared to the AoE damage output of Tantrum, or Despair.

Summoner Spells:

Finally, your going to want ghost and flash. You need ghost in order to increase your movement speed for a long amount of time, over a distance. In case if you over extend, or if an enemy over extends. You need flash in order to instantly throw yourself out of a fight if you get low on health. (warning: may cause raging opponents)

Other Possibilities:

Cleanse can be bought if you don't think Merc Treads are enough. It will give you a total of 60% cooldown reduction for 3 seconds after its activated.

However, Clarity is a big one. I believe if you don't overextend often, then you should use Clarity. Early-Mid game you may find yourself needing to B for mana after a fight with an opponent. If you don't have time to wait for mana, clarity is your spell.

Teleport is also an option. Getting to your lane fast after that fight and having to B for mana is another fix. It works in more situations, however isn't as team oriented.

Build Explanation:

Your First item you should get will be a ruby crystal for that extra durability in your lane, to tank for your partner early on. However if you plan on jungling, go for a Cloth Armor with 5 health pots, upgrade despair, then head for Blue Buff.

If you feel you need speed, buy boots. Otherwise hold them off.

Next You will buy the Aegis of the Legion. It is a great aura item that gives you great stats that help you as much as any non-aura item. and give your teammates a little boost as well.

Choose Between Mercury Treads and Ninja Tabi based on your enemy's team comp. If they have multiple Mages/Stuns go Merc, If they are running multiple DPS go Ninja.

Now grab Thornmail or FoN based on the same question before.

Now its Mid/Late game. Your built to counter your enemy and a great tank. Its time to control the battlefield. Grab Shurelya's Reverie and Control the movement speed of your team. Then Grab Randuin's Omen to control the movement speed of their team. These together give 23% CD reduction

Now Grab Frozen Heart. Thats another 25% CD reduction, mana, and armor. (48% CD reduction)

Lastly, grab a Warmog's Armor for that extra durability, if the game lasts this long, then its most likely a stalemate. Using this item will allow you to keep fetting stronger while your enemy stays the same strength. This is your last item.

Edit: Dec. 25 2010 (Christmas)

I found out Randuin's Omen now has 8% CD reduction, instead of 15%. Reducing final CD value to 48% instead of 55%.
