Introduction
Boots and three health pots is an average build for starting. Your passive should keep you high health in lane and if you get very low pop a health pot. This should allow you to stay in lane unit you have enough money for your next item. Your next item will probably be frozen heart, but if they have three or more high damage dealing casters on their team, i would build a banshee's veil or force of nature then frozen heart. If their team has a lot of high damage dealing dps champions, get a thornmail, because if you have enough health and armor, they will kill themselves faster than they can kill you.
One item that you always have to get is guradian angel. This increases your full potential for tanking and damage dealing.
The reason why i don't build health is beacause his ultimate gives him more health per stack. For your choise of boots I go with boots of swiftness. You can build mercury treads for tenacity but I go with boots three for extra movement.

I max my rupture first but many people max their ferral scream. Rupture has a better ap scaling and higher base damage, but it is harder to aim. Rupture has the knock up which is good against ap and dps champs, but ferral scream is mostly for ap champs. If it is hard for you to land your rupture, you can max you ferral scream then.
Pros- cho deals a lot of damage. He also gets a ton of health if he has full stacks on his ult. He also has his rupture and his silence. This makes him hard to gank.
Cons- When cho' has his full stacks on his ult he takes a lot of skill shots. He is mana hungry early game if he doesnt have a mana regen items or runes. I dont run, but you could. If you're good enough at lasthitting you wont have a problem with mana because his passive.

Farming is very important for cho' especially with this build. How you want to farm at level one is with auto attacks last hitting. His rupture and scream costs a lot of mana so you may want to not use it too much. The ballence between using your spells to harrass and using them to farm is important. If the enemy doesn't deal much damage you can just last hit with spells, but if they deal a lot of damage, try to hit them and the creepes. If you take a solo lane try not harrass too much until level six when you have some stacks. This is the time when the jungler ganks. When the jungler ganks you want to rupture the enemy and feral scream them so the jungler can get a slow off and kill them.
The time to use your ultimate is very important as cho'gath. The second you get your ultimate you want to use it on the closest minion. Do this until you havec six stacks. When you have six stacks you want to only use you ult to take kills if you need them or to deal a lot of damage.
