Champion Build Guide
About Me
Hello there! My name is Luca and I play in the EUNE region.
I am currently in Emerald elo and i peaked at Emerald I 87lp at the end of S13, while playing only Varus AP midlane.
Today I still play only
Varus, mainly mid lane and bot lane.
I saw a video from Doublelift about crit varus, which is presented down bellow and I thought it would be fun to try it out. I won many games with this build and I thought it would be a good idea to post this build from my experience.
Please read carefully what I ve presented to you and let me know it the comments if I missed something.
PS: I have over 750k mastery points on
Varus at the moment and I am an ADC main at my heart(
Varus,
Jhin,
Vayne,
Ezreal my most played ones) and if you wanna check out my account (OPGG or other such websites) that is Luca195 on EUNE.

Abilities
Passive :
Living Vengeance
On kill or assist, Varus temporarily gains Attack Speed. This bonus is larger if the enemy is a champion.
Q :
Piercing Arrow
Varus readies and then fires a powerful shot that gains extra range and damage the longer he spends preparing to fire.
W :
Blighted Quiver
Passive: Varus' basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and apply Blight. Varus' other abilities detonate Blight, dealing magic damage based on the target's maximum Health. Active: Varus empowers his next Piercing Arrow.
E :
Hail of Arrows
Varus fires a hail of arrows that deal physical damage and desecrate the ground. Desecrated ground slows enemies' Move Speed and reduces their self healing and regeneration.
R :
Chain of Corruption
Varus flings out a damaging tendril of corruption that immobilizes the first enemy champion hit and then spreads towards nearby uninfected champions, immobilizing them too on contact.

Summoner Spells
First of all, we will start with the summoner spells.
Always take
Flash as your first summoner spell.
The second summoner can vary, depending on your prefference or by the situation you are in. The standard one this days for ADC is
Barrier. I take this one for also most of my games. Against heavy CC take
Cleanse and if you prefer the movement speed, as
Varus is an imobile champion, take
Ghost. Also if you are against a powerhouse such as
Yasuo or
Irelia you can opt for
Exhaust(and you support doesn t go for
Exhaust. For more kill pressure take
Ignite.
Always take

Items
Now let s get into the items.
For starting items always go for
Doran's Blade and a
Health Potion.
Your first back should be a
B. F. Sword. I usually don t buy any items even tho i have gold to spend untill i have 1300 for bf sword.
First Item:
Yun Tal Wildarrows. This is crucial for this build and always your first full item. Don t buy the boots before this as you need to stack the crit up by autoing.
Second Item: Choose between
Runaan's Hurricane and
Phantom Dancer. The first one gives you a lot of AoE damage, but the second one has 20% more attack speed. In the video above Doublelift opts for
Phantom Dancer, but my personal prefference is
Runaan's Hurricane. It is up to you to choose to one you preffer the most.
Third Item:
Infinity Edge. This one is a must for this build. It gives you plenty of AD and amplifies your crits.
Fourth Item: Choose between
Lord Dominik's Regards and the item you didnt select for your second item, meaning
Runaan's Hurricane and
Phantom Dancer. If they have lots of armor go for LDR, which is what I buy most of my games, otherwise go for the other option.
Fifth Item:
Bloodthirster. This one is important because you won t have that much life steal by that time and will give you 80 AD, which synergyzes with your crits. Also, don t forget to stack the shield this item gives you before a fight.
Sixth Item: Choose between
Jak'Sho, The Protean and
Guardian Angel. Again this one is up to you. The AD from
Guardian Angel also synergyzes with your crit, but
Jak'Sho, The Protean offers a lot more tankiness. This one is fifty fifty.
Boots: I always go for
Berserker's Greaves for the attack speed, but you can also go defensive boots, such as
Plated Steelcaps against heavy AD or
Mercury's Treads against heavy AP/CC.
To top it all of, you can go for
Mercurial Scimitar as your fifth or sixth item against heavy CC.
For starting items always go for

Runes
Okay now let s get into the runes.
You always go for
Precision as your primary runes.
I always opt for
Lethal Tempo for the attack speed, but you can also go
Press the Attack for better short trades and for sustained damage.
In the end, go for the 10% attack speed and 9 adaptive force. At last,
Varus usually goes for the 65 flat health because he is mostly an early game champion, but you can also go for 10-180 health option if you want to scale and the lane doesn t pose that much big of a threat to you.
On the second line this is a tough one. You can go for
Absorb Life for the sustain in lane or just go for
Triumph for teamfights. Also you can opt for
Presence of Mind in case you usually run out of mana, but that s not a problem that I usually encounter so I never use this rune on
Varus.
On the third line you can go either
Legend: Alacrity for the attack speed, but i prefer
Legend: Bloodline as you don t have any life steal up untill posibly you fifth item.
On the last line of
Precision, you can go for all three:
Coup de Grace for securing the kill,
Cut Down or
Last Stand for better late game.
The secondary runes will be always for
Inspiration.
Magical Footwear as you should not buy boots early game in order to get your first item first and
Cosmic Insight for the cooldown reduction on your summoner spells and the
Yun Tal Wildarrows passive.

Teamfights
Varus is extremely useful in teamfights thanks to his Ultimate, which can root multiple enemy champions.
So after the laning phase just group with your team in order to secure the objectives.
Sidelaning isn t one of
Varus strenghts as you have no mobility so no way you can escape(other than
Ghost summoner spell).

Ganks
If you are safe from a possible gank you can poke your enemy when your wave crashes the tower but be aware of turret aggro.
