Have you ever tried going sheen, tear, rod of ages? You start with sheen for the damage proq. then get tear to start stacking. Rush the rod of ages to get it's stacks. Finish sheen into iceborn gauntlet. Grab some merc treads for less time cc'd. Finish up your archangels staff which should be close to 750 stacks at that point. Then last item zhonya's or spirit visage? Just the stats from items(without zhonya's or spirit visage)is +600HP, +2300 mana(3% of which becomes AP), +160 AP, +65 armor, +40% CDR, +25 mr. Not to mention enemies are basically perma-slowed. You have an active shield, and 15% of damage taken from champions is gained as mana and spending mana restores 20% of the cost as health. Maybe not the best build or very support like but definitely fun if you ever get bored.

Hey Criller7070,
I found your guide on Sona today and as much as I appreciate that you're recommending on playing her like a glass cannon, there were two questions that instantly came to mind:
1. What about being hard countered, e. g. by a Blitzcrank? I know you can certainly still deal damage from afar, but if he managed to grab either you or your ADC with his Q Rocket Grab, you're very likely dead and risk to fall behind (same goes for Nautilus, Thresh etc.). So while the "standard" Sona build might still have a chance to get away, you're totally screwed in this scenario. So what's your secret or advice in this situation?

2. Why are you still not building Ardent Censer? I'm quite certain you'll say that it's somewhat a waste of money and you won't get enough AP this way, but without it, you're mainly stating with this build that you're focusing more on yourself with this build rather than helping your team. But do not forget that you rarely can solo win a game. League is a team's game and helping others will (or at least should) result in them helping you as well. Surely, you can't help everyone every time, but you get the point and that Ardent Censer should at least still be considered as a pick - you could even sell it in late game for another item.

But these are just my thoughts. I'm really looking forward to your replies and explanations. I like guides that somewhat stray a bit from the "common" or "standard" due to the meta and I will definitely make sure to try out your build. I'm super curious!

+1 for courage and (rather) new ideas. :)
Cheers, Wicked Cherry.

Hi Wicked Cherry. First of all, about being countered, what i usually do is permaban either Blitzcrank or Nautilus (mostly Nautilus right now, because he is busted). A simple answer to avoid getting hit by hooks and things like that, is that with Sona's E Song of Celerity, it's not hard to dodge or always keep yourself behind minions. But also what i sometimes do is last picking, or at least waiting to see what the other team support picks. If it a tanky support, then it's usually not such a good pick. My secret advice is simply: know your oppenents strenghts and weaknesses and then you should be ok, and always respect their power. Especially if its a Nautilus, Blitzcrank or Thresh

Ok so the reason why im not buidling Ardent Censer is really just because of the fact that i dont believe her power lies in her healing (i know it also works for shields). It's just that Sona's power lies in her kit all together and i believe that some of the items listed in the build are providing more overall effectivness for the team. Eg. Song of Celerity is a really good ability for teamfights. It provides a lot of movement speed, and even more with more ability power. Conclusion: personal prefference, but i think its better without.

But thank you for asking these questions. I hope you understand my answers. And lastly thank you for checking my build out.

Thank you so much for your response!
The last pick tactic is what I usually really like doing. I hate being first pick and being counter-picked is just horrible. It still does happen every once in a while though, but then I usually just pick one of my mains with whom I feel most comfortable with against pretty much any champion.
It's true that Song of Celerity is by far underrated by many players, but it's also quite mana-consuming to use it to dodge abilities. Staying behind minions is one option, but it's not always possible, e. g. when you're warding.

It's true that Sona's power lies not in healing, but many people believe so. Even with a standard build, she's able to get between 2-5 kills per game, at least when I play her and I'm not really focusing on getting the kills but in getting the enemies killed. But saying No to Ardent Censer feels to me like you're saying No to her W. But I can't really tell the difference between building Ardent Censer and not building it. So I shall probably try out your build first. It's totally personal preference in the end, I agree. But I like to pick people's brains for new perspectives. :)

So keep going and good luck on the Rift!
