I disagree with the concept of buying more AP items on a support, but my downvote's not because of that.

I feel like the items you buy do not realistically and efficiently utilize your assets as a support.

The runes and starting items are good, but I feel like it just falls off path when you choose to buy Ardent Censer, an extremely inefficient item by itself and even more so given how ineffective attack speed is when you're needing to heal a champion because of how enemies will probably not be in range for your target champion to fully utilize the bonus attack speed.

Lich Bane into Zhonya's is also really ineffective:
Lich bane requires more AP, especially since you aren't like a TF which has enough gold to farm to efficiency - you're going to technically be a mid laner with no farm and no AP.

You might as well buy Zhonya's earlier considering how immobile and vulnerable to CC Sona is.

Hey there!
I've been using your guide for a while now. It sure helped for the past few seasons, but recently i've overcome a huge disadvantage. I realize with the runes/masteries, my Sona won't have much AP stats to start off with and i usually have a bad start with AP supps' (especially another flat AP Sona). How do you recommend i solve this? Should i use more AP runes? Or change masteries to more damage output?

Thanks in advance ;)

Seriously - try it. People will insist that you aren't really a support because of how much impact you'll have on the game. I recommend either the Rune build in this guide or changing the MR glyphs out for 3 flat AP and 6 scaling CDR glyphs. I also run Exhaust but that's because - with a Sona this scary - you will become the focus of their team as much if not more than your adc.

So I used a combination of runes similar to yours but with 3 flat AP glyphs and 6 scaling CDR glyphs. The results were a little bit ridiculous.

As a Sona I'm not used to deleting Assassins that are lower on health but this was one of the most enjoyable Sona games I've ever had. (Note that I HAD sightstone but switched it to Rabadon's solely to finish the game)

I haven't been on this site actively for a good number of months, even forgot my password. I went through the process of finding the email I used to sign up and resetting my password just so I could vote on this guide. I have played seven games so far with this build and have only lost one, and even then my personal score was not bad at all. Every game with this build I end with a handful of kills, a small number of deaths, and 20+ assists. This build very much complements an aggressive player, and I am loving it!

I doubt there is a need for a ward start. You usually want to have the 3 hp potions/1 mana potion for lane sustain. Morello is better item than Athene's as it also applies reduced healing. If you want mana regen, Mikael's Blessing is a better option.

Ardent Censer is not a good item atm as it's base stats are garbage for 2200 item. Lich Bane is questionable as you're basically 0 defense support whose supposed to go to AA range during a team fight.

Like it's needless to say that your ap items will be delayed until the very late game where the AP you get doesn't matter that much. You don't have safety or provide safety after you've used your ultimate.

It's hard to explain but you're like half way of doing nothing.

P.S: Enchanted Armor is really awful mastery.

Definitely helped me learn some of the core strengths and weaknesses of sona while giving me a fun build to play around with. Thanks for the foundation of knowledge :)
