Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Welcome To My Garen Guide
Hi Everyone! This is my first Guide / Build on Moba, so please be warned I may not be too informative but I'll do my best.
I Build Garen as a Tank at the beginning, but for mid-late game the damage starts to get better and with Garen's Ult he becomes a great last hitter.
Alot of people see Garen as a DPS champion. I don't disagree but against a bunch of Ranged Fighters or Mages, Garen is a little bit easy to take down, unless you use great teamwork and strategy. This guide is for people who think their better off as a tank champion, without really giving up too much last hit ability.
This is Garen's Best Technique before his Ultimate. He Gains Movement speed and he Attacks his target dealing extra damage AND silences them. Can you really ask for a better move on a melee fighter? This can be used for MANY things. You can use the speed boost to run away. Hit a mage with it to silence it so you and your team can focus someone else. The possibilities are endless!
This is a very helpful skill. This shields Garen negating damage for a few seconds which can really turn the tide in a match. You can turret dive with Courage on to take just a bit more damage than normal. You can also use this move with Decisive Strike to get away from hard hitting foes. Be wary however, as this move is no Undying Rage. You can only take so much before quickly running away or using Heal.
Another reason people hate Garen. He spins around in a crazy circle dealing some nice damage and to top it off you can follow people around while doing this. This can be used when being chased to do a little damage to try and get the enemy down a bit and possibly back off. Decisive Strike can be used immediately afterwards to get away.
The Coup De Grace of Garen's arsenal. This bad boy can only target champions, and does base damage and 1 point of damage for every 3 health the enemy is missing. This skill was made for destroying morale. Maybe an enemy champion is trying to get away with just less than half health. well a quick Decisive Strike and Demacian Justice combo will ensure that your enemy is 6 feet under.
Pros and Cons
-Great Last Hitter
-Alot of Health
-Dies Easy Early Game
-Hard to kill people Early
-Requires Proper Placement
Masteries and Runes
For Masteries I usually go 21-9 With the Heal upgrade in defence. Heal can be a very useful spell. Underappreciated by alot of people and yet those little points of health can save both yourself and your team in a big team fight/
Really for Runes just use whatever you think would work. I go with Alacrity, Strength, Desolation and Focus. It's really all what you think is good.
To start grab Boots. Boots can help with overall speed and in the beginning boots with your Q makes you get that speed edge off slow or unsuspecting opponents.
Grab some Health Potions if you feel you're going to need them. I don't usually but I have trustworthy laning partners most of the time ;)
After that buy a Warden's Mail for the armor boost as that will really help you stay in your lane and keep pushing.
After Warden's buy a Giant's Belt. Health is important early game. and it's a pre-req for Sunfire.
Boots of Swiftness. Alot of people say Boots of Mobility or Berserker's but a constant tier 3 Speed is amazing on Garen for chasing and running.
Sunfire Sunfire Sunfire! This helps with farming and getting that extra damage off your enemies.
BF Sword. Here's where the real damage starts coming in. You'll turn this into an Infinity Edge for good DPS later on.
Cloak Of Agility. This gives Critical Chance and is another Pre-requisite for Infinity Edge.
Finally, you've made it. You've earned yourself an Infinity Edge. Congrats you now kick ***.
Next build a Black Cleaver. This will help for more damage and attack speed which is perfect for Garen.
To finish this build off you can get a Guardian Angel. Now usually the game won't get this far because you'll have either broken their morale and made them surrender, or you'll be in their base destroying their Nexus.
I've never made it this far in this build. At the very end you can turn the Warden's Mail into a Randuin's Omen as it's only 1725 and it's better than the Warden's in every way.
And that's all the items that this build uses :D
Garen is known for being a tough character to beat. This build utilizes Armor and Health in a way that makes him very hard to kill Late Game.
This is also a Tank build so you won't be doing as much damage as say. A fully Upgraded Trynd. But you'll be providing great support for your team if you feel like the enemy team has alot of melee fighters.
I hope this guide is helpful to you and happy hunting :)
