I would suggest switching one of the bloodthirsters for a frozen mallet or some other thing promoting survival over raw damage. It would benefit his hammer stance instead of the straight-up cannon stance this is promoting, a literal glass cannon I guess you could say. I just prefer my Jayce with a bit of tankyness IMO. Although for those who do love to use cannon stance, I can say this guide feels viable. Just not for me though :P

APfelkuchen, you said it the first time and said it again, W has no early game significance, R has no purpose other than it's level 1 ability (You stay far away doing dmg and engage with Hammer when you intend to kill 1v1 and quickly close the gap between a carry) and Q and E are the main damage dealers UNTIL late game when you have damage items to make your Mercury cannon W do a lot of damage. -.- I'll keep winning with this build if no one else wants to use it.

Bloodthirster =/= survivability.
You need armor, magic resist, and health.

Survivability is natural with this guy, he is a bit tankier than most, but you SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING HIM AS A TANK, unless that is your build, in which this is incorrect. To the poster who made his first post telling me it is a stupid skill sequence, thank you for taking the time and looking ONLY at the top and not seeing my explanation as to why, and I will take my stupid skill sequence and continue to dominate my lane with it and you can take yours and wonder why it is a waste to put a point in ulti right away.

Also, the bloodthirsters do add to his survivability, you are almost playing him as a second AD carry late game, not a tank. Leave the tank to your jungle Amumu/Ali.

You need to have at least SOME survivability items.

Well, to respond to the comments that were negative first :(

mdinim:

The trinity force is a better choice than cleaver for these reasons:

-The damage steroid after cast

-Every time you Q onto one of them, hit them (they will be slowed) to proc the damage increase and then use E to push them away, then let your W proc its next attack, that is a large multiplier (130% for level 5 W, then 150% for trinity force, then imagine a crit with that)

-The added survivability and mana and movespeed at the end game.

-The added crit chance also maximizes the three shot and your normal damage.


Cleaver only provides extra damage and armor penetration, only 25 more damage than trinity and the penetration is only good after a full round of shots, it has to charge up.


IonDragon:

The ENTIRE reason I get boots early is to avoid a gank and allow for a strong chase. Jayce's passive proc and a flash are more than enough to get you away from most ganks, and you shouldn't be pushing top lane anyways, farm like an AD carry while harassing. If the harass is continued they cannot farm and you will over power them. Your character also has three tricks to help escape, the acceleration gate, jumping onto an enemy/creep closer to your tower, and teeing your opponent off in the opposite direction. :D

His added damage early game is not necessary because he already deals a rediculous amount of early game damage. His Q Cannon is powerful and with an exhaust and Q hammer you can CC them low enough so that you always secure the kill. The damage boost may be only 26 at the end of the game, but that is an extra 26 that you won't have at that point if you don't. The level up AD runes also allows you to snowball very quickly. Jayce is naturally tanky as we all can see, so he doesn't need as much armor to be successful top.

Thank you for the down-rating for no apparent reason other than you skimming the top build. Jayce is naturally tankier than most characters, as an AP top should be, and doesn't require the amount of defense you suggest, he does tons of damage and EVEN if he is targeted, that means your AD and AP carries aren't, fulfilling your role as a top.
