Preface
I play this game for fun. I can care less whether I win/lose a game. You cannot expect to win all games in random queues. I do not care about ELO or putting high numbers up. If the build works for you, GREAT! I am happy that I could help.

Most people play Gragas as an AP champ because of his barrels tend to hit rather hard. The popular route is to stack up AP. i.e. Stacking Doran's ring then onto Rod of ages, and other big AP items. There is no doubt this champ really scales well with AP. If you have ever dove into a team fight, you may have felt there was something missing from his build. That missing item is Cooldown Reduction.

The basic goal of this build is to do all of the things Gragas does well and do them more often. More Barrels, More Slams, More saving the day, and (who cant forget) More Drinking! I want to reach 20-30% reduction per game. The main build will be the optimal AP build I can reach if a game is going well. I will discuss other situational builds as well.

I think I can speak for all Gragas champs that early game is hard on our mana. Do your best to harass and last hit as much as you can.

The early core is two Doran's Rings and Fiendish Codex, Chalice, Blasting Wand. From there you can build into Athene's Unholy Grail and Deathfire Grasp. You should be sitting on 190AP + base AP. Mana regen is rocking and kegs should be flying. This should give you enough to secure some kills/assists.

This part is where you have a bit of freedom with your build. Ask yourself, do I need more defense to support or should I get more bang?

If you are going for the bang. I recommend going with Sheen next. This works well with our slams + cooldown reduction means our auto-attacks will do some damage. Keeps us in the fight longer with our passive.

Good choices to follow are Hextech Revolver, LichBane, and Rabadon's Deathcap. It really comes down to your play style and situation.

Hopefully by now you are being a bruiser and not getting focused to much.

Work on some finishing items like Gunblade, Void Staff, Will of the Ancients, or even a defensive item.
