No, just no. Chalice is the best Galio item even though it's cheap. It's better than RoA for sustain (you don't need the hp regen with your W). You can always sell it later. Don't just look at the stats, actually try it out first.

Sorry brah, think you tried to hard to be different just for the sake of being different...did the math and even used to run a build like this myself...it makes no sense. If you are taking Galio you are doing one of two things, tanky/support or ap mid, anything else and what's the point...speaking of points, what's mine? Well, I am tired so I'll just sum up what should be obvious...if your taking him mid its as usually a great counter pick because of his passive due to the fact that in a ranked game you will be facing another ap...so you basically run a MR carry as opposed to an AP carry, and there is a reason all the pros rush chalice...because it is absolutley amazing amazing on Galio in a solo lane...MR/sustain/and AP(damage)in a SOLO lane against an AP caster for 890 gold...yeah, you can argue that chalice is overrated sure...but can u argue chalice is overrated on Galio...no. Your current build just turns him into a tanky rock with wings...he does no damage late game and early game you are denying him the one trick that gives him an edge...he played like a tanky support but without any auras...and like i said if your doing galio your either tanky support or ap mid...so...rushing the catalyst over a chalice? Maybe if u were rushing banshees but rod of ages serves no purpose on this champ and if your argument is for lane sustain then again...chalice just offers so much more do to runic skin and yes you want to go heavy MR on Galio but the 50 percent ap you get from passive is too insignificant if you dont use a death cap to amplify it..."But this isn't an AP burst build!" Then, play someone else...sorry bro -1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Ps. To whoever said they went 20 something something with this build i would like to see some screenshots because you do not have the damage output to get over 20 kills with this build in and evenly sided match unless you ks everyone...

Not trying to be offensive here, but I think you tried a little bit too hard to disprove me. First off Chalice of Haromny is STILL an overrated item for Galio in terms of being a "must buy" item. While it is an incredibly cheap item, Rod of Ages is still superior to it. I feel as if you didn't read the guide at all. Galio has a surprising lack of HP and requires some extra survivability to survive attacks while using his taunt. The bonus amount of HP it provides you is invaluable to Galio, while it also completely solves any mana problems that plagues Galio. Once you buy a Catalyst, you should have very few mana problems. While Chalice is a cheap fix, RoA provides many more benefits that it far outclasses Chalice. And as a note, while there are pro players that recommend Chalice, there are also people who recommend Rod of Ages so I'm not sure where you're getting at.

Towards the point of Galio doing no damage late game: 1. You're Galio, your main purpose isn't to do big damage. 2. Rod of Ages gives me more AP than Chalice, so I'll be doing more damage with a RoA build. 3. Even with a tank build, a Galio with a successful taunt will still be doing major damage to the enemy team. I have seen this plenty of times.

However, and this is a big however, I never said that Chalice was a bad item. I think it was bad of me to not address this in my guide, but while I am adamant in that it is overrated, I definitely agree that there are times that you should buy it. For example it's a great item if you are new at Galio, have very low farm, are expecting a 20 minute surrender, or you're having a 1v1 custom match with a friend. The only case where you should ever have low farm as Galio is if you are playing a support role bottom.

One point I will agree on though is that I have seen the light on AP items such as deathcap. I have also seen the light on support Galio. However I want to make myself clear that while Galio is somewhat bursty, he will never be a true AP burst compared to other champions such as Leblanc and Veigar. I do consider him a tanky AP/tank but in all honesty he should never be called an AP carry.

Which reminds me that I have actually changed the way I play Galio since I wrote this guide. I have changed where I place my ability points and my masteries. I have also somewhat changed how I play Galio. Expect some big changes to the guide soon.

As to you Angus Mackenzie I just wanted to get my thoughts out towards you. I hope you see my train of thought, and I hope you change your vote because I honestly felt as if your vote wasn't truly justified in my eyes. If you do not change your vote, that is fine by me.

Have you considered MR quints? You'd lose ~7 AP for a gain of ~15 MR.
