For items, I have focused on dealing as much damage as possible and still stay safe with the Frozen Mallet and Guardian Angel. Bloodthirster, Last Whisper, and Maw of Malmortious will help you deal a lot of damage to enemy targets in fights, which will eventually bring them down. If you do go down with the Guardian Angel, make sure when you resurrect, you either focus a weak opponent, or execute an escape route to avoid death.
With Skills, I focused on dealing as much damage you can with your Broken Wings early, while leveling up your Valor and Ki Burst steadily. Ki Burst and Valor are not supposed to deal a lot damage, they are more of focusing a target, or escaping the enemy team. Use your Ki Burst for stunning as many enemies as you can. and then Valor to escape the enemies attacks when they become unstunned. However, while the enemies are stunned, your team should focus the enemy ad Range, to quickly turn the fight into your favor. When wanting to deal a lot of damage, use your Blade of the Exile and attack with basic attacks as many times as you can, and saving your Wind Slash to execute some of the enemy team mates, or to deal a lot of damage in team fights. From here, you must think that Riven is a pretty easy champion to get used to. However, it does take some time to get used to and to perfect. One thing you should remember when playing as Riven is your passive. To get the full effect of your passive in a fight, make sure you space out your basic attacks. Meaning, make sure you try and basic attack the enemy with every Broken Wings cast. (You get 3 casts to Broken Wings before it goes on cooldown, so be sure to attack them once after each use of your Broken Wings.)
