Bad guide imo, no need for wriggles, strange runes. Looks like something made by a 1200 elo player.

Sounds like a 1200 elo response...
Instead of just saying what YOU don't like, tell him WHY you don't like it and how he can change it. I personally feel that the build and runes are solid although I wouldn't have a Phantom Dancer in there. If you want attack speed get Wit's End and if you want move speed get Force of Nature.

Also the guide isn't really a guide as it hardly says anything. If you want a +1 add to the guide and add some code in there to make it more interesting to read.

I really disagree with the above comment. Haunting Guise is not a good item to get, at this stage of the game early Madreds -> Wriggles is exactly what you need - as Maokai is a slooowww jungler. Sure Haunting Guise might improve your ganks slightly with its increased damage output, however you can't gank a lane you're 3-4 levels behind because you take ages to clear your jungle =/.

I have better advice regarding first item... instead buying Madreds, buy hunting guise gives you spell pen and HP, an AP, and works just fine, other items are depending on game of course, but glacial shroud is recommended, cooldowns and mana, both much needed

Hello, I recently tried jungle Maokai in some custom games, just to see if you would make it (wanted to know if there is a better way, that's why I came here). My findings so far: you don't need the mana pot, since you can start at the blue golem (on your own or with help, doesn't really matter). You start at around 1:20, chuck 2 little guys onto the golem spawn. Then, when he spawns, chuck another one. Then indeed proceed to spam E and smite for the kill.
I also didn't take heal, since Maokai heals quite well using his passive. I got ghost instead, to make ganking and getting places much easier (since, as you know, the tree is horribly slow).
For your build, I pretty much agree on most things, except for the order and not getting any AP+HP and not getting MR (but of course people know builds aren't set in stone). I got:
Cloth Armor + 5 Health Potions
Boots of Speed
Madred's Razors
Wriggle's Lantern
Mercury Threads
Rod of Ages/Relai's Crystal Scepter (depending on if you get money early enough to buy Rod of Ages from ganks)
Giant's Belt
Negatron Cloak/Chain Vest (get both, but decide the order upon what the enemy team has)
From here on out, it's pretty much "get what you need when you need it".
If ganking isn't going well, you can also take a Philosopher Stone and/or Heart of Gold to help with both jungling and ganking.
For runes I had Magic Pen marks, Armor seals, Cooldown/Magic Resist glyphs (either works fine) and Health quints.
For Masteries I had 9/11/10, shouldn't be too hard which points I put where.

I'm not saying my build is better or anything, I'm just giving you another insight into jungling with him :) Hope consider my input and enjoy the game :D
