You don't win unless you're a whole item ahead, and even then he can probably still kill you Save your E to avoid his cc Avoid Q3 onto him early because he will jump on you Try to pull the wave and ask for your jungler Don't duel him, and understand he always has strong kill potential especially when he hits 6 As always, respect his E. His W cooldown is decently long, so you can punish him while in spirit form when he wastes his E.

Champion Build Guide
Early, make sure to seize prio with your Q3 in matchups where you can do this. This would allow you to step up and zone the opponent away from the lane in matchups like Yone vs Fiora.
If you can't zone them off, hold onto your Q3 until you have the opportunity to knock them up while dealing minimal damage to the wave.
If you manage to knock up your opponent, you should look to walk up and auto as the Q3 will naturally bring you closer to them.
If you farm fast, you can get back on roughly 38 cs with enough gold for berserkers and a control ward. Berserkers on first back is very imporant.
If you can't back for berserkers, buy boots and dagger, then a refillable/control ward.
On the bright side, farming on Yone is very easy. Yone can farm from a decent range with his W, and even by Eing in and Q to secure a cannon minion. Learn how to farm as yone under tower, because you will find situations where all you can do is farm.
Make sure you're not stepping up too far. Escaping as yone is difficult and you will most definately need to expend alot of key cooldowns. R to escape is an option, but you need to make sure you can cast it without getting blocked, otherwise you will just die and lose your R cooldown. So, you might find yourself combining it with a flash or Q3.
But, Yone does have alot of strength in 1v1 duels when he does eventually hit his powerspikes. Being able to understand your situation and whether or not you can farm safely comes from matchup experience.
Yone does have utility in his R. Your best bet late game if you are behind may be to E R over the wall and blow up, or just CC a carry or even multiple carries if you can place your R properly.
Unless you're very far behind, always have some idea of contesting herald. Yone is very strong in 1v1, 2v2 situations with your jungler, especially with good synergies. Shoving a wave and forcing a fight at herald is a reliable way to snowball a small lead into a big one while impacting your teammates lanes too.
Keep track of where the enemy jungler is. This is especially important on champs who are vulnerable to ganks. This is also true for Yone.
Split push when the enemy contests mid game minor objectives.
Yone is also a strong split pusher. Because of his strong dueling power, he can split push mid/late game. Just be aware of your vulnerability to getting collapsed on.
Make sure you position yourself properly in teamfights. Yone can airborne the enemy jg to decrease their focus on smite, or even if you manage to place your R to hit another enemy behind them, you can bring the junglers out of range.
You can also get Q stacks from objectives and E + Q3 + R onto enemies behind dragon/baron pit or enemies zoning your team.
Placing your Q to hit an enemy minion first and then the enemy will not give you minion agro. Exploit this to sneak out free Qs without picking up minion agro when the opponent tries to CS
Your R is very important to securing kills. If you can, don't start with your R unless you are trying to engage a teamfight (for example). Try to make sure your R lands 100% of the time by casting it right after a knockup + auto
Cast your W first in duels. This applies only to mid/late game when your W cooldown is short enough to fit multiple Ws into one duel, which means you will be getting more shielding. Do not do this during early duels as getting Q stacks are often much more beneficial than decreasing your shield cooldown by a small amount. I have been in many duels where a last second W has saved me.
QSS is very powerful in certain situations. Escaping from enemy hard CC is important on Yone due to his low mobility and tendency to being locked down. While QSS isn't very strong in lane, you can buy it against Mordekaiser, and buy silvermerer or scimitar later.
Don't waste your IS cooldown. Its practically as long as your R cooldown, and it's ability to win duels shouldn't be discounted. Don't take senseless duels/poke which trigger your IS.
A common mistake I see Yones making is the Q3+Flash combo. Alot of Yones prefer to press Flash+Q3 to gap close before Q3, but flash can be casted while in your Q3. The combo is much harder to predict and dodge if you play Q3+Flash instead of Flash+Q3.
Dont build prowlers. Admittedly, the combo is cool and flashy, but the damage you lose from not going IS makes prowler's just not worth it. Jump into practice tool and test it for yourself if you don't trust me.
Other mythics could be Jak Sho. I don't have enough games on this to give a formulated opinion on it, so all I can say is try it out.
I also find deaths dance weaker now than before the change, so only build it specifically to counter heavy burst
LDR isn't built commonly on yone, but I find that the item is pretty good on yone, but for tanks like mundo, it is better to go mortal reminder, which has grevious wounds and armour pen.
There are some things I have purposefully excluded from the guide as I want to maintain my top 1,500 yone ranking on leagueofgraphs. Thank you for reading and upvote to get 1% more edge in your games.
