Updated to include Sorcerer's shoes and an alternative build path.
Generally Sorcerer's shoes are inferior to Ninja Tabi or Mercury's treads in lane because you need to all in to get any sort of damage off, so survivability is better.
It's not really hard to rush a Rod of Aages and a Deathfire Grasp inside 20-30 minutes on Maokai if you roam, but I included alternatives anyway.

Why wouldn't you recommend Sorcerer's Shoes and why would you build Rod of Ages after Deathfire Grasp because both but mainly RoA are supposed to be "rush items".
