Introduction

Hello and welcome to my guide to Jarvan IV: The Expemplar of Demacia. This will be my very first guide and very first post on Mobafire, I created an account just to write up a build for this awesome champion. I'll be editing this guide as time goes on and will be constantly updating it.

Pros :
- Great solo laner
- Amazing duo laner
- Lot's of CC

- Low skill costs

Cons :
- High skill cap
- Slight mana problems early game
- Takes some time to master
- Can cause problems with ultimate if not positioned or timed correctly

Summoner Spells

I choose Ghost and Exhaust as my summoner spells, ghost obviously for chasing and running away, exhaust for an added slow and semi-disable for those high DPS champions like Ashe, Tryndamere, Yi.

Runes

Greater Mark of Desolation :
Jarvan is a melee hero that mostly relys on auto attacking for damage, armor penetration marks is a must in order to dominate lanes early game and do damage late game.

Greater Seal of Clarity :
Mana per level seals helps with his early game mana problems also when mid / late game comes around you rarely see yourself out of mana if you use your spells correctly, you can also go with HP per level, flat armor, or armor per level seals.

Greater Glyph of Shielding :
Magic resist per level glyphs is a must for this build simply because I don't stack much magic resist other than Mercury Treds and Banshees Veil, this allows Jarvan to be more durable through out the game.

Greater Quintessence of Desolation :
Again with more armor penetration means more damage at the start of the game you'll have 31 armor pen from your runes and masteries more than enough to pierce through anyone's early game armor.

Masteries

21/0/9 :
Taking the standard melee offensive masteries and 15% spell pen which gives his Demacian Standard a little bit more damage, also I go 9 into the utility tree for the 5% bonus experience and gold masteries which may seem insignificant but actually do help in lane.

8/21/1 :
You can also go with standard defensive masteries if you prefer this allows him to last longer in team fights and live through pro initiations, taking 8 in offensive with improved exhaused and CDR reduction while also taking the ghost mastery in the utility tree.

Items

THE ITEMS! The jist, heart, and soul of guides I've played around 50+ games with Jarvan along with 1 ranked (Soon to increase!) and tried many many builds with him until I finally found the perfect one!

This build starts off with a Doran's Shield very good starter item provides +120 HP, +10 Armor, +8 HP Regen allows you to stay in lane longer and gives more armor to tank those early game auto attacks!

Usually when I'm forced to go back I have enough for my Mercury Treds which is amazing for any champion but I feel it's a must for Jarvan simply because as I mentioned early I don't stack much MR in this build so this provides much needed MR and a nice 35% CC reduction to go along with it.

Next item on the list in the Sunfire Cloak gives HP / Armor / and an immolation effect, you get this item first to help you farm do more damage and take more hits, make sure to watch the enemy teams composition if they have more of a magic based team build your Banshees first and then make your Sunfire after the Frozen Mallet.

Atma's Impaler your main source of damage by this time if your doing everything right and got the cloak or the veil your damage should go up by 50-60 points which will boost your damage significantly and after getting a Mallet you'll be above 200+ damage! Also a nice added bonus is the +45 armor and increased critical strike chance.

Usually if I'm doing really well in a lane I can farm up and rush my Frozen Mallet before everything else only rush this if you can get it under 20mins! Otherwise get the other items first, this is an amazing item a perma slow, 700 HP (More damage from Atma's), and +20 damage provides great survivability and chasing power.

Banshees Veil your main source of MR, as I've said earlier if your up against a caster heavy team swap this with your Sunfire and get Sunfire after your Mallet, we all know how amazing Banshees is so no need to go into depth about it.

Madred's Bloodrazor, scary name isn't it? Even scarier damage output when put on Prince Jarvan IV, I've personally never gotten that far into the game for me to get a Madred's but this baby should make you God, yes that's right God, it gives the scary 4% passive, more ASPD, more damage! Good luck getting this far without making the other team QQ.

Situational Items

Items to use based on the situation!

Last Whisper : More damage, and 40% armor penetration! Get this when your up against a team that's stacking armor but not HP.

Thornmail : We get this mainly for the 30% damage return get this when their AD carry is fed against carries such as Ashe, Tristana, Tryndamere, Yi. The +100 armor is a nice buff as well very good item for its price.

Randuin's Omen : Can be swapped out for Sunfire Cape if they have a lot of auto attackers, gives armor, slowing effect, more HP (Damage for Atma's), and a active AOE slow which synergzes well with your Golden Aegis.

Infinity Edge : Can be replaced with Madred's Bloodrazor if enemies are really squishy and not really stacking any HP go ahead and buy this because it complements the crit you already get from Atma's Impaler.

Skill Sequence

Skills! For this skill sequence we max out his Demacian Standard first it gives his flag more damage, give Jarvan more ASPD, and the passive benefits for yourself AND your team are significantly increased! Always max this out first.

The next skill I max is Golden Aegis, this is an amazing shield it grants a flat 250 damage absorb maxed out + more absorption the more champions are around! It also provides a nice AOE slowing effect that goes along with your Mallet.

Dragon Strike is maxed out last you only need one level of this in order to chain it with your flag, it gives a good 14% armor pen and does ok damage.

Cataclysm. Just the name makes me shiver this is such an amazing ultimate that will either make or break team fights for you, this is perfect for initiating on over extending champions block them from their team or saving allies that are being chased. This skill takes a lot of time to get used to also your timing must be perfect!
