Runes

The runes that I use for Jarvan are always the same

Marks:

9xArmor Pen

Jarvan¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s skill except his Passive and Demacian Standard are all Attack Damage, he needs the Armor Pen in order to do as much damage as possible.

Seals:

9xArmor per level or 9xHp per level(Depends on the situation)

This truely depends on situation but the armor per level seals synergize well with his Demacian Standard Passive

Glyphs:

9xMagic Resist per level or Cooldown

Depends if they don¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´t have any casters, Magic resist is self explanatory.

Quintessences:

3x Armor Pen or 3x Hp

For damage purposes early on, if you feel like you are too squishy, take the hp Quintessences.

Skills

Dragon Strike: Jarvan IV¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¢¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¿¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¿¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½½s spear extends through his opponent, dealing physical damage and lowering their armor by a percentage. If this ability is cast on the Demacian flag, it will pull Jarvan through to his Standard, knocking up all enemies in his path.

This skill is Jarvan¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s bread and butter, it his usually his finisher when he uses it with his Demacian Standard he dashes fowards knocking enemies back, extremely good because it hits all the enemies that are in a line.

Golden Aegis: Jarvan IV calls upon the ancient kings of Demacia to shield him from harm and slow surrounding enemies.

This skill is a bit useless on the start in the laning phase, I usually only start putting points into it when I have already maxed my Dragon Strike and my Demacian Standard.

Whoever if you are ganking early on, by all means have at least 1 point in that skill, if you initiate with your Demacian Standard+Dragon Strike and successfully knock them back, you will use your Golden Aegis afterwards to slow them down and help your buds take that enemy down.

Demacian Standard: Passive: Grants Jarvan bonus attack speed and armor. Active: Throws a Demacian flag, dealing physical damage and granting passive benefits to nearby allies.

A very good skill to have, I always start with this skill and max it as fast as possible, it can be good to check bushes, to help in teamfights by boosting your friends armor and attack speed and to initiate with Demacian Standard+Dragon Strike.

Example:

or dashing through walls:

Cataclysm (Ultimate): Jarvan IV heroically leaps at his target, dealing physical damage and creating a circle of terrain around them for a few seconds.

This skill is awesome, if you can get characters in your team that have aoe skills, this skill is likely to wreak havoc to the enemy team. Whoever, if they have flash and if they can use it, they will likely escape your ulti.

This ulti should be used in order to chase enemy targets, in the start of a teamfights agaisnt close range Ad carries or to take out high damaging Ap casters in the enemy team.

Martial Cadence (Passive): Jarvan IV exploits his target's opening, dealing a percentage of the target's current HP as magic damage. This effect cannot occur on the same target for several seconds.

I absoutely love this passive early on, 10% current hp on the start means you will be scoring 50+ magic damage agaisnt an enemy target on the first hit, since it¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s current it also means, that the magic damage will be less when the target has less hp.

This skill is also extremely good to help a jungler finish off certain jungle monsters, like Dragon and Nashor, even though the damage is capped at 400.(If it was any bigger he would do up to 2000~ damage agaisn¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´t those monsters)

If the enemy has a lot of hp, using a [Madred's Bloodrazor] on top of your passive can really destroy that enemy.

Item Build

This is the core item build I use for Jarvan. The reasons for this core build is merely due to the fact that provides him with the hp he needs, resistances and that precious extra cc to make him a good ganker and a good chaser.

Since he already possesses a skill that grants him a good amount of armor early game, he really doesn¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´t need to get armor items early on.

Demacian Standard: Passive: Grants Jarvan bonus attack speed and armor. Active: Throws a Demacian flag, dealing physical damage and granting passive benefits to nearby allies

The Banshee¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s Veil is very useful, because Jarvan becomes almost useless whenever the team starts using crowd control effects on him, and a disabled Tank is never used for people who need protection.

Finished Build(Normal team with Mages and Ad¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s)

Lane with someone

Jarvan can be very successful laning or soloeing but only if you are teamed up with the right people.

You should always be teamed with characters that have a good burst of damage, that have a bit of cc and that can survive, like Sion/Garen/Xin Zhao/Ashe/Miss Fortune/Lux/Annie, pretty much any character that can bring pain to the enemy forces on the laning stage.

For the laning phase you should always start with

[Boots of Speed] [Health Potion] 2x [Mana Potion]

It gives you staying power and it helps your mana problems early on until about level 4/5 where you will likely have to go back to base to refill your mana and hp bar.

or you can go with:

[Cloth Armor] [Cloth Armor] [Health Potion] 2x [Mana Potion]¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´

and build either a [Wriggle's Lantern] or [Madred's Bloodrazor] or [Aegis of the Legion] or [Randuin's Omen]

Always use your Demacian Standard to harass enemies, that¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s why you should max yourDemacian Standard and your Dragon Strike to deal maximum damage early on.

If you feel a bit insecure with Jarvan by all means start with this:

[Doran's Shield]

but sell it after you dont have any more item slots.

Doran¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s shield should be taken if you feel like the laning phase is going to be extremely hard for you and if you are agaisnt enemies that have a lot of burst and cc or that are extremely tanky.

Use Demacian Standard to scout inside the bushes before entering them!

Always initiate with Demacian Standard+Dragon Strike or your Ulti depending on the situation!

In my opinion Jarvan fills almost every role in the lane, generally being very successful but only if played defensivily and taking the right opportunities.

Mid Lane

Jarvan is a champion that has a few range abilities like his Demacian Standard and his Dragon Strike, he could be really good in the mid lane if he is facing squishie characters.

He is particularly good agaisn¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´t Twitch/Ashe/Annie/Malzahar and a lot of the squishie dps characters due to the fact that he can use his Demacian Standard+Dragon Strike combo in order to knock them back, making them unable to use their abilities and thus getting Jarvan easy kills.

Jarvan can be particularly good mid lane if you are used to Jarvan, you got to keep the watch out for the bushes and ganks though.

Team Fight

In the team fight, if you dont have any initiator, then you will have to do the job.

Always initiate with your Demacian Standard+Dragon Strike or disable the squishie dps with your Ultimate.

Never and I mean NEVER use your Ultimate when a squishie teammate is attacking a target, unless he can survive, because you will be the one to blame if he gets killed, because you took away his ability to escape.

If Jungling

[Under Construction]

Jungling Path

Masteries

If you are jungling you should start with

[Cloth Armor] 5x [Health Potion] or 2x [Health Potion] 2x [Mana Potion]

Core item build for Jungling Jarvan

[Mercury's Treads] or [Berserker's Greaves]

[Wriggle's Lantern]

[Banshee's Veil]

[Frozen Mallet]

[Atma's Impaler]

[Youmuu's Ghostblade] or [Last Whisper] or [Stark's Fervor] or [The Bloodthirster]

Summoner spells should be Smite/Ghost

Runes:

Marks:

9xArmor Penetration

Seals:

9xFlat armor or 9xarmor per level

Glyphs:

9xMagic Resist per level

Quintessences:

9xArmor Penetration

Jarvan should start at normal golems, then go to the wolf camp, then to the ghosts, then to the blue buff. Always use your demacian standard agaisnt the monsters as it grants you extra attack speed and armor, when you have level 2 start using your Demacian Standard and Dragon strike to lower the monsters armor and knocking them back to finish them faster without them doing damage.

Good Partners

Blitzcrank is a particularly good laning partner for Jarvan, he grabs, jarvan uses his Demacian Standard and and Dragon Strike and they can easily kill an enemy that way.

Annie stuns, Jarvan knocks them back with his Demacian Standard+Dragon Strike combo.

Also Jarvan can initiate with Ultimate and annie uses her teddy bear and spam skills on top of the enemy or vice versa.

Most of Lux¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s attacks are Aoe and her particular ultimate can really combo well with Jarvan¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s Ultimate.

Snare is also particularly good to catch chasing enemies, and Jarvan can take the opportunity to use his knock back combo to take them down.

Taric stun and constant heal makes him a powerful partner for Jarvan, providing him with extra armor and attack damage that he so requires early on.

Urgot Ulti+Jarvan¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¯¿½¿¯¿½½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½¯¿½´s Ultimate= No way to escape.
