Introduction

Jax The Grandmaster at Arms

Lore:
It is seldom the case where a champion is defined by his actions after joining the League of Legends rather than before. Such is the case with Jax, for whom the argument could be made that he is the most prolific tournament fighter currently at the Institute of War. Before joining the League, Jax was an unremarkable soldier-for-hire. For reasons known only to the former leader of the League, High Councilor Reginald Ashram, Jax was put on the top of the list of candidates to receive a League Judgment - the interview process that either accepts or rejects a prospective champion. His Judgment was the quickest in League history, where the Doors of Acceptance glowed and slowly swung open as soon as it began. Jax faced no recorded Observation or Reflection during his Judgment.

Jax proved himself to be an immediate terror in the Fields of Justice. The self-proclaimed ''Armsmaster of the League'' rattled off a streak of consecutive wins that to this day has not been matched. A number of summoners in the League grew concerned that the perceived objectivity of the League of Legends would be questioned by the presence of an unknown fighter who was unbeatable. For this reason, the new leader of the League (following Reginald Ashram's disappearance), High Councilor Heyward Relivash, created special restrictions for Jax to fight under. This was something the League had never done before, and something that has never been done since. The burly fighter responded by imposing his own special conditions; as a means of protest, he permitted himself to fight using only a brass lamppost. Neither the League's sanctions nor his own has affected his winning ways. The League has since rescinded its sanctions, but Jax has not; he fights and fights well with his trusty brass lamppost.

''Be advised - there has been an outbreak of lamppost-shaped bruises in the League of Legends.'' - Gragas

Lulu Patch Changes

1. Ultimate was changed from boost in attack damage and AP to increase of Magic resist and Armor.

2. Health per level was increase from 88 to 98

3.Counterstrike area of effect radius increased to 375 from 350

Background:

I've played the new and improved jax a good amount of times to know his ins and outs, and I'm new to guidemaking so I hope it doesn't bother too much if it may not be too in depth like you would like. Please make suggestions on how to improve and what should be changed as it would help the whole community. Jax is a very aggressive champion and with his new ulti and very useful E can survive and shutdown enemy champs like crazy. I hope you can give build a couple of tries to make sure the build.

Please vote after trying out my build, and if downvoted please leave a comment on why and how you would like me to change the build.

    Occasionally mana starved
    No real escape mechanism

Summoner Spells

Main Summoner Spells:

Exhaust:

Exhaust slows movement speed by 40% and reduces auto/basic attack damage by 70% and ability/item damage by 35% for 2.5 seconds.

Reason for use:

It's a versatile skill that can help you survive as well as chase, which is what makes this a must have for jax in my opinion. However if you believe another skill helps you better or is your favorite then by all means replace exhaust.

Flash:

Teleports your Champion to target nearby location.

Reason for use:

A spell that can help you escape and sometimes initiate, it is the most useful of spells as seen on every other guide.

Other Viable Spells:

Ghost is a great spell to catch those runaways and to run quickly to teamfights, it is a great choice for a second option instead of exhaust.

Teleport: is a good spell if your top lane to base quickly and have great sustain in lane, but I sometimes feel that once your not in lane, you feel like you missed out on another good spell like exhuast or ghost.

Ignite: I like because it is very useful in killing champs that always get a way with 10 health, if you like it better and its your play style you can take instead of exhuast.

Cleanse: good spell if enemy team is heavy on cc, this could save your life many times and could help you get a kill as well by clearing you of disables and slows.

Stay away from section:

These spells are either for roles that jax does not fit into at all or aren't really much of a help at all in my opinion.

Jungling

I do not have a jungle build, i may look up on that, but for now the ability smite does not pertain to this guide.

Masteries

For masteries I chose a 21/9/0 masteries. The reason for this is because i like having the high damage output, and with the well needed armor and magic penetration it only helps by making the build a lot stronger. The 9 points in defense may not seem like much but they give a lot of well needed health and turn jax from a glass cannon dps to a hard hitting dps with great surviability.

P.S sorry for the bad quality picture.

Skill Sequence

Relentless Assault:

Every time Jax performs an autoattack, he gains 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 14 % attack speed. This buff lasts for 2.5 seconds and stacks up to 6 times.

A very powerful passive that makes jax the hard hitting unstoppable carry that he is, after max stacks and after you have built your black cleaver you will have an attack speed of 2.5 and deal amazing amounts of damage.

Leap Strike:

Jax leaps towards a target, dealing physical damage if the target was an enemy. 70 / 110 / 150 / 190 / 230 (+0.6 per ability power) (+1.0 per bonus attack damage)

Take a point early to help you get in and out of fights, it can launch you to enemies to bash them in the head or you can use on an ally and you will jump to their location. Remember that because it may help you to escape. I max this stat last.

Empower:

Jax charges his weapon with energy, causing his next autoattack or Leap Strike to deal additional magic damage. This ability resets the autoattack timer. Magic Damage: 40 / 85 / 130 / 175 / 220 (+0.6 per ability power)

Empower is an ability that makes your next auto attack or leap strike to deal magic damage, and resets auto attack timer practically giving you a double hit which causes a great deal of damage on enemies. I max this stat second.

Counter Strike:

Jax enters a defensive stance for up to 2 seconds, dodging all incoming basic attacks and taking 25% less damage from area of effect abilities. At the end of the duration or if Counter Strike is activated again, Jax deals physical damage and stuns nearby enemies for 1 second. This spell deals 20% additional damage for each attack dodged to a maximum of 100% increased damage. Physical Damage: 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+0.5 per bonus attack damage).
Max Physical Damage: 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 (+1.0 per bonus attack damage)

This is your best and most useful of your abilities, the reason why is because it shuts down dps, and stuns multiple surrounding after 2 seconds (1 second if pressed early). I use this spell after initiating with Leap Strike, then use Empower, after this combo enemy is stunned and auto attack for the kill. Use it wisely and time it right. Max first.

Grandmaster's Might:

(Passive): Jax deals additional magic damage on every third basic attack. The counter will be reset if he does not attack for 2.5 seconds.
Magic Damage: 100 / 160 / 220 (+0.7 per ability power)

(Active): Jax gains armor and magic resist.
Armor Bonus: 25 / 35 / 45 (+0.3 per bonus attack damage)
Magic Resist Bonus: 25 / 35 / 45 (+0.2 per ability power)

This new ulti that was given to Jax after the Lulu patch made Jax even stronger by giving him more armor and magic resist which works well when attacking or being attacked by multiple champs. It'll reduce incoming damage significantly and it was just what Jax needed to be a better champ then he ever was. Max when can.

Items

Core Build

This is your core build, which is what gives you your main damage and attack speed, changing could result in undesirable results. With the really high attack speed these items deal damage each attack. Madred's does 4% magic damage each attack, Wit's End does 42 magic damage and gives magic resist, while Black Cleaver gives well needed armor penetration and attack speed along with a good amount of attack damage

Changeable Items

These items can be changed for other items. Change in boots would lower attack speed, but if your situation calls for better boots then take them. For example these are Two possible changes. Which can be mixed in different combinations. I ask if you have any combinations that you think would be better please tell me and after review I'll add in.

Enemy Heavy CC

Additional AD + Ap

The way I got this build was by focusing on Jax's passive and using his attack speed to my advantage, which helps deal high physical damage along with Unique Passives damage like Wit's End passive, Madred's passive, and Ultimate Passive.

Game Play

Early game:

You start of with a Vampiric scepter to give you a good sustain while your in lane, make sure heal on creeps when you can to make sure you don't have to base so much because that could deny you possible farming and kills. Make sure you farm, I can't stress that enough, farming is key for jax because if you are not getting kills and are only getting assist for some strange reason farming can actually give you your bounce back since jax is a crazy fast farmer. Well back to eary game gameplay, try to be a bit aggresive don't over extend too much and try warding if possible. Usually do not base back until you have enough for bow and boots, but if you can't it's ok just buy boots and try to get kills if possible. If you are top lane solo be cautious until you have bought your bow or until you know you can initiate and push back enemy, make sure to ward river to stop incoming ganks.

Mid game:

By now hopefully you've farmed or killed enough champs to get up to your wit's end or maybe even started building black cleaver. Try to gank dps champs as they are weakest against Jax's Counter-Strike ability along with your exhaust and make sure you are joining in on team fights because your team will need you, drop in on enemies with your q, use your ulti, activate your counter strike, use your W and then just prioritize enemy targets as this can help your team a lot.

Late Game:

If you are doing Well, I'm assuming your close to destroying your enemy's nexus and you need no more further help. If not and your team isn't doing so hot then my advice is to farm as many minions and neutral monsters as possible because jax can build himself up on farming, and this could help you to afford items that were denied to you, but still play it safe and don't initiate without your team. Remember in order to win it's not just up to the carry, but the team as a whole and there is no champion that can win a game for their team by themselves. Build up according to the situation and that is the final advice I can give

I hope you have enjoyed my guide, and sorry if the game play section wasn't what you wanted I will try to add game play videos to help you further. I am still a noob guide maker so I will learn how to improve this guide a lot more. I thank you for reading and considering my guide, I again ask that you leave advice for me to review

It's a short thanks for now I know I hope you enjoyed my guide and that it helps you become a better jax player as this build has helped me dominate in League of Legends, I am trying to update for ranked game usage, but ill see how that goes.
