Introduction

Hi my name is fuji and i am by no means an amazing player, or grammar aficionado but i will try and make this a "readable" guide on how i play nocturne it might not be the best way but it seems to work well for me, so go make bk randoms smash their face into their keyboards out of rage from you making their precious teemo pop like a balloon.

Pros / Cons

Pros:

- WTF BBQ damage.
- Fun, i always have fun playing nocturne
- Rage inducing, not for you for the unfortunate souls you are playing
- Can be described as "easy" but this is after you know what you are doing
- You look like a badass.

Cons:

- Can be countered, just most people dont know how
- Moderately high cooldowns
- Can be talked into jungling (it can be rough if you dont know what you are doing)
- Kind of OP, this isn't really a con, i just know some people don't like to be considered "OP" but come on who didn't use the UMP 45 in Modern Warfare 2.

Masteries

I go 21 - 0 - 9 with the focus being placed on the offensive end. Nocturne is one of those champions that does massive amounts of damage in a short amount of time, so it could be argued that going a more defensive build could help more but i believe getting your maximum damage output would save you more than defensive masteries.

Runes

9 armor pen runes are obvious, the more armor your attacks penetrate the more damage you will do. The biggest choice in runes for nocturne is between mana/5 levels seals or dodge seals. I prefer the dodge seals, but it is more personal preference. mp5 runes will help with nocturnes low mana pool vs the dodge runes bolstering your melee defense. i use magic resist glyphs, but yet again its personal preference. I am still a newer player so I dont have multiple choices of runes and or major amounts of "ip" so flat magic resist glyphs will help your survivability against ap nukes a little bit and not hurt your wallet too bad. Though i haven't tried it cool down reduction glyphs would help as well, but you would be a little more vunerable to ap attackers.

Items

This item build works well for nocturne because it allows you to build up your ad faster, and be more consistent than say rushing a bf sword and building a major item right away.

- Doran's blade - is how i prefer to go out of the fountain as it adds some damage, but more importantly 100 health and some minor life steal. I know some people are against doran items since they do not build into anything, but i would highly recommend going with it on nocturne, trust me the enemy teams one who went with without out is respawning in 4 seconds.

- Bezerkers Grieves - I love these boots, for some reason i just am attracted to the minor attack speed that it gives you. Using these instead of mercury treads gives nocturne more than enough attack speed to last until you build your phantom dancer.

- Brutalizer - Its more attack damage and some armor penetration, it builds into our ghost blade later on. It also passively reduces cool-downs which helps considering i do not use the CDR glyphs.

- Vamperic Secpter - More lifesteal helps, if you get hurt just go farm some minions for a little bit and you are good as new =). It is also a piece of your first "major" item.

- Catalyst - gives you more health and more mana, will build into a banshee's veil later.

- Bloodthirster - AWESOME ITEM - i love this item too, but not when you are dying a lot. You get some attack damage, some life steal, and the ability to build up stacks on the item to add an additional 40 ad and 10% more life steal =D, its is your bread and butter item, when i get this the game is basically over, adding 100 AD(w/max stacks) and great life steal makes you a weapon of mass destruction (note if you live in iraq, please avoid george w. bush)

*your core is complete from here you can make decisions based upon the game*

- Banshee Veil - This is where you can start to pick and choose depending on how the game is going. 9/10 times banshee's veil is my next item in line. You get a free spell block, and some great defense from this item. You will make those warwicks cry as they try and duress you and it does nothing as you proceed to turn him into jerky.

-Phantom Dancer - When you are feeling untouchable, this is where i look. When you are 13 - 2 and they havent surrendered yet(trust me its RARE), and the other team is crying about how you need to be nerfed, how your "Q" is op, how your spell blocking "W" is op, how you have a fear "E" is OP, and your ult that lets you fly in from the side is "OP", and you are just laughing as you increase you damage output further. Basically you are going to get it anyway but getting it early just makes the haters(squishies) cry more and more.

- Ghost Blade - I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN THIS FAR!!!!!!!!! but it would be your next logical step. It is a lighter version of Infinity Edge, with an active that acts like a light phantom dancer, basically you rape EVEN MORE. *Advice* on any item that has an active effect such as ghost blade, or randmun's omen, ect. make sure you put it in slot 1, you can then cast it via the "1" key on your keyboard making it easier.*

-Black Cleaver - Well after you have blow up the squishies, they tanks are left, why not penetrate even more of their armor and just make them QQ as they run towards their fountain. you will probably never get this far, but it can be a viable "choice" after your core.

Infinity Edge/ Trinity Force - I like these items, but they are just too expensive in my opinion, you are taken out of the game for too long attempting to build these items usually, but you choose to build them as they are great items.

Aegis of Legion - Good defensive item, can be a good choice for you depending on what the rest of your team has.

Warmog's Armor - Tanky dps, less damage for more survivability, i have never personally got it but it is a tanky item that i enjoy on other characters. It is a viable option, but i have not tried it.

Quick Silversash - my Go-to on heavy cc teams, see blitzcrank buy this item, it has a free cleanse which is helpful, it isn't that expensive, and it provides good stats

There are other options, but i am not going to list them all. You can look at the other teams composition to decide other situational items. such as.

heavy ap - force of nature

heavy melee dps - Thornmail

you aren't a tank, but your defensive items should be valued on what the other team has to kill you.

Skill Sequences / Descriptions

i think my distruibutions are correct, but if they arent exact oh well, basically

R > Q > E > W

Your passive Umbra Blades - (Innate): Every 10 seconds, Nocturne's next attack strikes surrounding enemies for 120% of his physical damage and heals himself for 15 / 20 / 25 per target hit. Nocturne's basic attacks reduce this cooldown by 1 second.

very good passive, increases your damage output, adds minor healing, but it helps a lot with farming early game.

Your "Q" ability is Duskbringer - (Active): Nocturne throws a shadow blade which deals damage, leaves a Dusk Trail, and causes champions who are hit to also leave a Dusk Trail for 5 seconds. While on the trail, Nocturne ignores unit collision and has increased Movement Speed and Attack Damage.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.
Range: 1200.

its a great skill, it helps with you harass, it helps you secure kills and is usually your initiate into side lane battles if paranoia is not up.

Your "W" is Shroud of Darkness - (Passive): Nocturne empowers his blades, passively gaining attack speed.
(Active): Nocturne creates a magical barrier for 2 seconds which blocks the next enemy spell. If an ability is blocked by the shield, his passive attack speed is doubled for 5 seconds.

THE PASSIVE ROCKS!!!! attack speed helps a lot, i get this at level 2 just for the attack speed boost, this about it as a free bezerkers grieves at level 1 ( 20% from passive, grieves are 25% so a little worse but worth it.)

Your "E" unspeakable op chatter oh i mean horrors ... unspeakable horrors - Nocturne plants a nightmare into his target's mind, dealing magic damage over 2 seconds and fearing the target if they do not get out of 600 range of him for the full duration.
Range: 500.

This is the move the secures your kills, Duskbringer initiates your damage, as it increases your movement speed and damage, then you fear them, making them worthless, as you laugh and beat them to death. Q - E - Q is your bread and butter early to mid game when paranoia is on cooldown, and trust me thats a lot.

WHAT THE FU#@ I BLEW A FUSE MY SCREEN IS BLACK, *WHOOSH* "you have been slain" Paranoia - (Active): Nocturne reduces the sight radius of all enemy champions and removes their ally vision for 4 seconds, this includes champions, minions, wards and towers. He can then launch himself at a enemy champion with a large range. Deals physical damage on arrival.
Cost: 100 mana.
Range: 2000.

your ultimate, it isn't really for damage but you can finish people with it, ie. "tower dive"
you can initiate your fights with this, or use it to finish them either way it closes distance. Though it has a bigger effect on the psyche of the other team. With your ult if you are playing well you initiate not only a fight but fear, as described by riot, you cause nightmares.

Summoner Spells

Exhaust - usually my "D", i love this summoners spell it secures kills like no other, part of my favorite combo early game of Q - D - E - Q, melee inbetween of course, easy kill at level 3, or sooner depending on the skill of your laneing partner.

Ghost - Another common pick by everyone myself included. Great for its versatility, can use it to catch up to people, or run from others.

Flash - only other real viable option for me, isn't really required for me on melee dps, but has its overall helpfulness, ghost however has a shorter cooldown and you can put a skill point into it via masteries, unlike you can with flash since we dont go that far down.

Ignite - Good spell, i don't like it however though its really personal choice, but i prefer exhaust

Clarity - Nocturne is somewhat mana hungry, and this could be an option if you need it, but it is a crutch that you really don't need just get blue buff.

Cleanse - its Good but not Great the other spells will help you more
______________________________________________________________________________________________

dont use anything else really. heal is a crutch that doesn't help enough to be viable, fortify is for tanks which you are not, its not even that good anyway. Clairvoyance is for your supports, teleport is ok but i dont like the cooldown

Biggest reason i like exhaust and ghost are the fact that they achieve balance, and work well throughout the game. I like to have 1 offensive spell, and 1 defensive spell, but exhaust and ghost work well all game long, thats what makes them stick out. For example, you are raging at that stupid master yi with his heal that barely allowed him to survive, though it is useful at level 2, at level 18 you will just laugh and hit him 1 more time as he wasted his spell.

C-c-c-c-combo

nocturne's combos are straight forward, but can be alternated depending on the situation and the timing of your "w"

early game Q - E - Q will do a lot of damage and let you hit them for a little bit, it is a solid combo that will get you kills, and is your overall bread and butter.

once you gank with paranoia, basically just "R" before you go flying at who you are trying to gank so its R - R(to fly at them like an eagle stalking its prey) then Q - E - Q

adding exhaust into either combo helps too, doesn't really matter when just so that it is in there.

The hardest part about nocturne's abilities is the timing of your W, too soon and you waste it, too late and its already affected you. It is a 2 second gap of spell shield that matters so much in team fights, and against that stupid Karthus. *karthus uses requiem* *wait 2 seconds or so, you will get this timing after a few times, hit "W"* *angry karthus is angry that he didn't hurt you at all and you wasted his mana*

Laning partners

Try to balance out your lanes, ideally you will go with a ranged champion, but be warned you are not a tank, don't try and act like one. It can be hard to lane with people like heimerdinger who expect you to take the hits while he sets up his turrets and runs for cover. I am going to brag a little bit here just a " " tiny bit. I have a great laning partner a majority of the time, i have these mystical things called friends that i lane with, usually it is with my friend who plays mordekaiser, but wait fuji didnt you just say balance your lanes, well with how hard we push the other team back we dont need balance, Its not often that i brag about myself as it isn't really my thing, but it is just amazing at how hard we slam a lane.

my suggestion. go with who YOU want, i wouldnt recommend mid though(unless its co-op vs ai then who gives f#$# go blow up annie and ryze)

Top Reccomendations -

Anivia - slow + your damage/fear = LOL GOOD RUNNING BRO

Mordekaiser - If you have a good morde, you can push a lane to the point of it being deemed unfair.

Your Friends - "What@#@!%#@!$%@#%$@^#$^@#$^@#$^@#$ you know my friend autograph pl0x" haha i am just kidding, but seriously i would recommend going with a friend over going with a balanced match up. your friends know how you play, and you have better synergy, unlike that stupid heimerdinger who wants you to tank while he hides like a little girl. *note i like playing heimerdinger too, just notice a lot of people just lay turrets and go to their turret and camp their little golden ***fro's off.

farming

Auto attack last hit minions, or just auto attack if you are trying to push the lane, dont use your skills to last hit thats what scrub Nocturnes do, save your mana, note* to save a tower be that skill spamming nub, and by skill spamming nub use your Q*

Zoning

I know she has the voice that makes you want to click away and cut your ears off. I understand that you don't want to listen to it and are attempting to click the mute button, but she is so smart of a player it is worth it trust me on this one =D

Final Words

Well my children, i have prepared you to play my favorite champion. I make no claims that this will get you laid in the LoL community by ROFL stomping people as nocturne is a feed based champion. I just know that this has worked well for me, but i haven't tried any ranked games, just pubs using this build, but i hope it has helped. This is my first guide and i will appreciate all feedback, hell call me a noob i dont care, i am just happy that i can finally give back a little bit to a website that has helped me learn a game that i really enjoy. Thanks for taking the time to read, have a nice day. Oh and sorry for no pictures, i am a guide nub =D.

BTW all descriptions are from http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Nocturne_The_Eternal_Nightmare

and finally thank you to google for spell checking what words i could not make the red line go away on, and thank you mobafire for allowing me to post a guide for your website, now i demand 50000000000 us dollars pl0x =D.

After final words wtf you liar

Just wanted to make this point stand out. YOU ARE NOCTURNE THE ETERNAL NIGHTMARE, overall you are a strong melee dps character who can make a world of differences to your team in terms of damage, but most of all you supply what cannot be seen on a scoreboard or damage counter. Your main job is to instill fear into the other team. The best thing your can do is make the other team say "F#$^" when you use paranoia, trust me its funny to see everyone run like a little girl when their screen goes dark.
