hmm well the second build you have there doesn't quite justify the lich bane due to low ap, but the first one is a perfect build for a all arounder. +1 now xD

Can't see how Zhonya's is really useful here, he doesn't have abilities that make a stall useul (makes you untargetable, so they can't focus you w/out AoE). Try another one of your armor items, or maybe a Randuin's.

Also, I can build tank Maokai and still get kills easily. My guide is USSR tree hugs you.

I get Zhonya's becauase in addition to getting armor, it makes all of his other abilities do more damage by giving 100 AP. It's active is also good because it allows you to more effectively initiate by using Twisted Advance to a target and then activating Zhonya's , causing them to waste all of those AOE's on you.
As for Randuins, it's a very good item and I don't deny that it's very useful and if you feel more comfortable getting it, then I encourage you to, I just prefer Zhonya's because it fulfills my quota of giving both offensive and defensive bonuses.
And it's great that you get kills with your build! I'm by no means saying that this is the best, nor only way to build Maokai. It's just how I play him and it fits my playstyle.
Thanks for the comments!

if you like a jcak-of-all trades aproach this build is good, but it doesn't excel at anything as fulltank or full ap builds do. so you won't be realy a liability for your team but you won't be much of an advatage too, so i'd suggest you complement the build with a Lich Bane that will give you a punch on your auto-attacks and make you something like a trinity tank. its my opinion though and i have played maokai in the way you suggest before.

the reasoning behind the ulti is also kinda vague, if you position it right and if your team knows what they are doing then your ult can change the gameplay and actualy net you some preaty hard dmg if you lvl it up every time it is available.

also i suggest you include a skill-combo section.

otherwise a preaty good guide but i will not vote yet xD

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely add a Lich Bane in there and add a little bit about skill combo. Maybe it is just a skill placement thing, but I know that the radius on vengeful maelstrom is very small in comparison to a full on 5v5 teamfight, and if it's not over within a few seconds, than the mana upkeep just drains you. But the damage reduction is one of the things that really makes Maokai excel as a tank, and if there's extra damage involved, then I can see going ahead and leveling it up.
Keep the comments coming!
