i like it! well made! i love maokai and you have shown him off very well. i personally like the crystal scepter because it makes you tanky and slows enemies when your saplings explode. very good item to have. another thing ive tried with some success is that you get a chalice of harmony as your first build too item. this usually solves any mana problems i have early/mid game.

I have to say I like this build more than the "You have iced his killing tree" build imo.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter passive have no sense on maokai

@Wiggz Fact is that the guide was released one day after the champion release and everybody had their own idea about how Maokai should be built, leading to the downvotes. The top rated Maokai build is indeed very similar to the ones explained in this guide, but has 10 % more upvotes...

Too many irrational downvotes on this guide. People need to realise that this is a guide, not a commandment. This is a decent foundation for people to work from. I agree with most of it. +1!

I can't anser everyone personnally but the fact we hit the 37500 views is a great milestone for me and I am more than enthusiastic about Maokai. He's simply so fun to play, uh ?

I will now answer briefly to the comments :

Pojop -> I am very happy you were satisfied with my build . With your approval, I will use your pictures also, as I like a lot your match results ( insane farming skills ! ) . You aren't harassing, you taught me a valuable lesson.

Jebus McAzn -> I see your point. By Kiting, I wasn't so precise either. What I really meant is that Maokai is , to me, some kind of "harassing support" . He slowly softens the target using his saplings, then initiate and opens the way for a harder dps-teamate. He just can't be a heavy damage dealer to me, his skills aren't well oriented to put up damage.But a well placed ult can do an amazing job. Even though you haven't +1 , I'm very happy you removed your -1. As for your more technical explanations, I've taken notes and I will see what I can do. The build is anything but set in stone.

Chuck89 -> Warmog's , uh ? If you have to put one, make sure you buy it before FoN so you can use it's healing potential to the maximum. That said, I'm afraid that would turn Maokai into a vlad-champion, high health but no defenses. Experience proved that Armor/MR is better than HP in this game, but it works too. I also want to thank you for your answers to other persons. I'll write a note in the guide.

Chazn2 -> If you are looking for a buy-to-win buid, I'm afraid you won't find it here. Not enough magic protection on sunfire ? Las time I checked, it has no MR at all ? The build listed on the cheat sheet is a generalist build, meant to be effective against both physical and magical champions ( which is generally what you face in ranked play )

Syntax Errors -> Your post leaves me breathless. Your arguments are basically : "I'm top ranked so what I say is good" "I have a great team so what I do in build is auto-awesome" "Your bad so it's normal your builds are too" "You are wrong because you are wrong" " What I say is right"

I mean, Pojop, will you slap me if I flame this guys ? Cuz...

Syntaxx -> Similar name, uh... About the health bonus, yes it's true. But compared to Singed, you do not have to get as close to fight enemies. All your skills have good range. This way, it makes sapphire just as useful to me.

Shatfaced -> I did a quick review of your comments. You -1 almost every build you went by... Flash has saved my *** so many times I just can't live without it. As explained in my spell section, your choices are influenced by your gameplay. I absolutely love to juke people using flash, or flash through walls for a gank. This makes flash the best for me. And you ? About sunfire, yes I have already thought about Randuin's. And tried it...But stopped. I don't know, I just like the damage per second. As Phreak stated in his spotlight, after his battle combo Maokai has to go on auto-attacks for a couple of seconds. The damage of SUnfire really helps and punish those who dare attack Maokai. That said, Randuin's is still a very good item to me. Unfortunate you -1 for a speel and 1 item that is more preference than usefullness, but I can live with it.

Lastly...

I can't see but someone mentionned I should do a video or give additionnal info. Well I will certainly consider it, it's an awesome idea. But I have very limited time right now, torn between school and my girlfriend ( which I desperatly try to make play this game ( She plays WoW but won't play LOL )) so I can only do text-based stuff right now. There's more on it's way guys, stay tuned.

I noticed there are now a huge number of Maokai builds on mobafire, which makes me even happier. It's awesome we get so interested to Maokai, which is along with Renekton and Shen my favorite champion. I'm also thrilled to see you guys still following my build, and I thank you all for it. The oldest Maokai build lives on !

Go on and punish those pesky mages now.

Love thsi build, most people only get one rank in smash until you cant level anything else, but by lvl 7-8 it becomes almmost useless considering everyone has upgraded boots and high movement speed, i like that you get another rank in smash, makes it more usefull midgame.

Great build my friend tryed it out and ended up pwning.. alot! ^^ +1

i like the roa and rylais, but the flash is bad. tree is so slow theres no point to having it. u flash they catch you anyways you flash to then is the only time its viable. ghost is a much better idea. Other than that I dont understand what you;re building here. Are you tank or dps or hybrid? jsut having roa is useless if thats all you;re going to build. If you need mana take a tears, if you need health take rylais off teh bat. Sunfire is another item i dont agree with. Much better off having a randuins than sunfire. The damage is almsot nil since you cant stack them anymoer. Having the cdr and its active and the regen are much more useful if you;re a tank. you want to survive dont you?
Just seems soft and like you were not quite sure what to build. I did try out your build, wasnt horribad jsut didnt work well for his abilities. Hes not that tanky unless you build him that way and trying to go hybrid just cripples him.

I think he's too squishy to use sapphire first. Mana is nice but he's also a tank, and doesn't get the same bonus singed does.
