Introduction: Chopin's Back. (You know, because Chopin composed Nocturnes..
Why I choose to build Nocturne as I do:
It seems that every Nocturne player I see always builds him as a jungler or a side-laner, but only takes DPS items. They build him as a melee carry, when I see him in another light. His ulti lets him get right into the middle of a team fight better than any tank's ultimate, and coupled with his fear CC, it seems obvious that Nocturne should be an offtank. Cruise right into the middle of the enemy team, CC their carry, exhaust DPS, hack away.
Now then: Onto the build.
PRO'S:
1. Looks badass.
2. Great chaser.
3. Very durable. Great survivability.
4. Able to dish out lots of DPS damage.
5. Amazing ganker.
6. Disables entire team by blinding them.
--
CON'S:
1. Not as high damage output as pure DPS carry Nocturne.
I honestly can't think of any more.

Meh. Just meh.
I get so much hate for my masteries build, but the plain fact is that it makes for great jungling and great reliability. With 20 points down the Defensive tree, you get the survivability, but also the XP bonus from the Utility tree. You also get improved exhaust and smite, so you're not losing any jungling capability.

Start off with the simple cloth armor and 5 HP pots standard with any jungler. Complete the jungling route as described below and recall to base.
Now you should have enough money to pick up both the razors and the boots. Here's where you have a bit of a choice- if you're getting tons of CC, perhaps picking up Merc. Treads would be a better option than the speedier boots of mobility.
Next up, immediately build your Madred's Bloodrazor. By now your damage will be off the charts. Use your standard combo, ulti in if you have it, Q the enemy, E the enemy to ensure the kill, then hack away. Cast W whenever you see it fit.
Now that you're doing major damage and you're getting focused down in teamfights, the standard tanky-HP item to build is Warmog's. This will make the enemy think twice before right-clicking your sorry arse. Building the frozen mallet gives you even more CC and damage, and by now the game should be won. If however it is still going, I recommended a Banshee's simply as the absolute end-game item.

Your jungle route is fairly standard.
1. DOUBLE GOLEMS
Start here. Use your Q to strike both golems, then hack away and smite the golem you're targeting. Pop a health potion as you're starting to hit the second golem.
2. WRAITHS
Target the big purple momma wraith so your passive strikes all of them. Immediately pop a health potion and finish the babies off.
3. WOLVES
Easy enough. No HP pot needed here. Hack away at the big poppa wolf, then target his little minions.
By now, your smite should be up.
LOOK FOR A GANK. If there is one available, take it. If not, get started on the Blue Golem. Fairly standard again, just pop an HP pot, hack away at it constantly keeping your Q up for the attack bonus, and use your E whenever available. Port back to base and buy your items.
This is your jungling route. Swap out golem for lizard if you like.
By now a gank should be open. Swoop in with your ulti, or if that's not available, just Q and hit the enemy champ. Follow the dusk trail, E the enemy for a slow, and hack away. They'll get feared which will definitely give you a shot at getting a kill, often a first blood. For more CC and to lessen damage taken by you, use your Exhaust.

To sum it all up, in your hands you've got the greatest ganker Riot has ever developed. You've also got a mechanism that can put you right on top of the enemy carry, and from there you can easily exhaust them and take them down.
Building Nocturne as an offtank jungler dps champ seems like the only perfect way to build him.
