Champion Build Guide

[Patch 26.13] Taric OTP Guide

By GemStunner

Abilities

Passive

After casting an ability, Taric's next two basic attacks within 4 seconds each gain 100% total attack speed, deal 22 - 90 (based on level) (+ 15% bonus armor) bonus magic damage and reduce the cooldowns of his basic abilities by 1 - 0.55 (based on cooldown reduction) seconds, increased to 6 - 3.3 (based on cooldown reduction) seconds for Starlight's Touch's recharge time.

Stategy:
His passive is a vital part to his build. Idealy you want to AA+AA after using an ability. Idealy the enemy chamion if your in range. The CoolDown reduction from this attack is more important than the damage. Ultimately it comes down to what you can AA the easiest. Sitting in the dragon pit AAing the dragon to get your passive off can be more beneficial for your team than chasing a champion that you may or may not be able to hit.

Q

Passive: Taric stores a charge of Starlight's Touch periodically, up to a maximum of 3 at once. Starlight's Touch cannot be cast without charges.
Active: Taric heals himself and all nearby allied champions, with the amount increasing with every stored charge at the time of cast.

Stategy:
You want to make full use of your passive with this ability. 2 AA will give you 2 charges in your Q after use. Do not use your Q too often at low levels as spam will quickly deplete your mana. I find it best to stop using heals when your about 100 mana. If your under tower trying to survive then go ahead and heal your adc. But you wont have any mana for a stun if you spam it. You may also want to add a level to 3 early rather than your 2cnd level in stun if you have no value in leveling stun.

W

Taric and his Bastion-marked champion gain bonus armor shielding them for 8 / 9 / 10 / 11 / 12% of their maximum Health for 2.5 seconds

Stategy:
This is really goood at minimizing small amount of damage on the adc early, even from minions! And it scales into late game. A general strategy for this in a teamfight is to keep W on your tanky front line if your in the back or your ADC back line if your in the front. Your W + spell rotation works really well on champions like Urgot, Sejunai, Reksai, and Pantheon.

E

Taric projects a beam of starlight towards the target location, erupting after a 1 second delay, dealing magic damage to all enemies hit and Stun icon stunning them.

Stategy:
Get used to E+Flash.

R

After a 2.5 seconds delay, cosmic energy descends upon Taric and all nearby allied champions, granting them invulnerability for 2.5 seconds upon impact.

Stategy:
This is one of the best ults in the game. But it has a long CD, and can be kited. Also it might not save your adc in time from assasinss. Idealy you want a teamfight to happen when your team has your ult proc and you are right on top of the enemy. You can also use your ult to finish turrets.

If your ult saves a teamate or enable your team to make a play then it is a good use. Otherwise it is better to save it. Because your ult is only going to be up every other fight till the lategame.

Pro vs Con

Pros:

✅ His stun is relevant regardless of level.
✅ He's Outrageous.
✅ He can spam his spells lategame.
✅ He Can link and replicate to another partner.
✅ Ult allows for some great ganking in lane.
✅ His E allows for multiple stuns.
✅ Yasou's Wind Wall and Braums shield does not block your E (Spellshield does).
✅ Makes Baron a breeze.
✅ Teamfights often dictated on your ult.

Cons:

❌ Laning is hard vs lots of poke.
❌ Very Kiteable.
❌ His stun is a skill shot.
❌ Spamming his heal is a great way to run out of mana.
❌ His Ult takes 2.5 seconds to charge and then only lasts 2.5 seconds.
❌ Long CD.
❌ Low damage.

Build and play style explanation

We try to get to the lane and enter the bushes as quickly as possible (Taric is very strong at level 1 due to his passive ability). If the matchup allows us to do so (meaning we're playing against non-mobile opponents) and we feel confident enough, we can easily go for a trade if we land our E ability.

In the first few minutes, we want to get 400 gold as quickly as possible - once we achieve that, we recall to base for tear and from now on we can spam our abilities - this is our first power spike.

From level 6, if the enemy is low on health, we can easily dive under the tower and pressure the opponent. I personally love following along with the jungler (jungler + Taric W + E is a great tool for catching enemies). But remember, before leaving the lane, make sure that you can leave your ADC alone on the lane.

What Ability Second?

You put a point into Q Level 2 when:
- You and/or your ADC got chunked Level 1 so you need to stay healthy.
- You and/or your ADC are low and need to be healthy for an early gank from your Jungler but your Jungler CANNOT set your stun up easily + you have Flash.
- Your ADC cannot set up your stun early or doesn't want to fight early.

You put a point into W Level 2 when:
- You have equal or more health than the enemy Bot lane.
- You have an ADC who can set your stun up (like Lucian or Samira) and you want to go for a kill or get Summoner Spells.
- Your Jungler is early ganking you and can set your stun up (like a Shaco or Xin Zhao).

General support tips

1. Learn Timings, being where your suppposed to be when your supposed to be is 30% of this game. These are timings that have helped me improve my game.
2. An efficient full clear jungler should be in the bot Tri-bush about a few seconds after 3 min. Make sure to have it warded at 3 min or do not walk up to pressure.
3. You can wander to grubs when they first spawn to help but it puts your adc in a very vulnerable position. I recomend stayin bot 90% of games for this obj. If their support roams to help make sure to punish the enemy adc, preferably with a kill. If you need to die for the kill then its worth. Your adc will get more xp and more gold while other teams adc will lose solo xp and gold. This can translate into prio on drag and level 6 first.
4. At 14 min you should be mid. You need to be there to help with objectives/counter ganking mid.
5. For objectives, especially dragons, it helps the team to have wards down 1 min before objective. This will also give you time to back and refresh wards and be there for the teamfights.
6. One other tip for early laning is to try to always leave fountain with a pink ward. What will happen is when you back your pink in tri bush will get cleared. But if you have a pink on every back you can place it right back. Thank you to the Janna support I played against that showed me how annoying this strategy is in keeping the bush clear of wards.

Thanks for reading!
