Introduction to Veigar

Before playing Veigar, it is best to fully understand his abilities and how to use them to your advantage

Passive- Phenomenal Evil Power: Veigar gains +1 AP for every ability he lands on an enemy champion. Assisting or killing an enemy champion grants a bonus +5 AP.

Q- Baleful Strike: Veigar shoots out a projectile in a straight path, damaging the first two enemies hit. If Baleful Strike kills a minion, Veigar gains +1 AP.

W- Dark Matter: Veigar drops a projectile down, damaging enemies within the projectiles radius.

E- Event Horizon: Veigar sets up a wall around a certain area. If enemies touch the edge of the area, they are temporarily stunned.

R- Primordial Burst: Veigar sends a projectile that deals magic damage towards enemy champion. The damage increases the more health the enemy is missing.

All of Veigar's abilities can help with his stacking passive. If done properly, Veigar can become a threat early in the game.

Frequent Questions

Q: Does Veigar's passive work on jungle monsters?

A: Yes, just as long as you finish them off with a Q.

Q: What if you kill an enemy with a non-ability?

A: You still get the +5 AP from his passive, which is why I like to try and finish the enemy with an ability to get +6 AP. A small difference, but it can make a difference as the game progresses.

Q: How should Veigar be played?

A: Veigar should be played as passive until you at least get a Luden's Echo or a hundred in bonus AP. Playing aggressive early game will make Veigar miss on farm and a lot of bonus AP.

Playing in lane

Since Baleful Strike can only hit up to two targets, it is best to save it for low health minions at the start of the game. When you get Dark Matter, use it to keep your opponent at bay. If they know Veigar, it will keep them from farming or getting too aggressive. To reiterate the point, Veigar's passive works with all abilities, so if an enemy is stunned byEvent Horizon, you will get +1 AP. Farming is key to a powerful Veigar. Try your best to stay in lane and last hit minions to do major damage to the enemy team.

Playing in team fights

Two of Veigar's abilities are extremely useful in team fights: Event Horizon and Dark Matter. This isn't to say that Veigar's other abilities aren't useful, but since Event Horizon and Dark Matter are AOE abilities, they can help catch the enemy team out. Saving Primordial Burst for the enemy carry will help keep them away from your team or even send the enemy team into disarray as they try to protect their carry.

General Advice

Veigar is a high damage mage for mid lane. However, to do more damage and near one-shot your opponents, be sure to focus on farming up on minions before going hard on the enemy. If against one of Veigar's hard counters (level 5), stay under turret and farm from there. Late game, Veigar will pop off against the enemy team. Focus on stacking.
