Maokai is a great AP TANK, a few people play him as full tank or full AP, but i recommend to use him as a hybrid champ, with a few points on ability power at first point, along with health enough to be "tanky".

With this guide you'll learn how to get the best of him, and you'll be able to get some kills too.

These runes are made to let you be strong in early game, and aggressive in mid-late game, with a lot of cooldown reduction.

Common AP-tank masteries (Nunu, maokai, singed...) use to be like this. No comments needed.

You'll be spamming skills and getting a lot of kills, as you can tank AD enemies while killing their ap carriers very fast. Remember you heal a % of your total health, wich will be about 500-700 at late game,... in teamfights it will happen all your auto attacks.

Those are a common hybrid anti ad-ranged and melee carriers. On the contrary, if their carrier and fed one is the AP champ, you can switch sunfire cape for a Force of Nature, but i don´t recommend it.
