Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
So basically this item build is a tank version of Shen. In my opinion a tank build is the only way to go with Shen. I have only been using Shen for maybe 10 or 15 games, but ive found that this item build works best for me in most team combinations.<--EDIT- I have been using this build ever since and havent lost one match o_0---> I believe i havent experimented enough with the masteries to bother mentioning it, so feel free to make any suggestions. Im also assuming you already know what Shen's abilities are...
I recommend you buy the "Frozen Shen' skin because its just...awesome. Who doesnt want a Subzero clone?? (I didnt really like Scorpion :p )
Firstly, youll want to buy the Ruby Crystal at the beginning of the match. A solid 180hp is very useful as it already turns your opponents off attacking you first. That said though, one of your roles as Shen is to protect your lesser armored team mates.
Personally i dont like to go for the gank at the beggining of any match because of the risk it poses at the cost of being the Pub-hero.
If possible, try to solo a lane for obvious reasons, and harass with your Vorpal Blade as much as possible while utilising its life tap to keep you at max health. Regardless of whether soloing or not, stay in the lane as long as you can until you can afford BOTH the Leviathan and Boots. However if you are forced back early, just buy the Leviathan as this item is crucial late-game because you can end up with an extra...(Sh1tload) amount of health AND a 15% damage reduction to you :D
Once you are back in the lane farming, save up for the Mercurys Treads first, OR if you find yourself in a cash-rich situation, go ahead and buy your first Giants Belt. Remember the more health Shen has, the more damage he does. Once you have acquired both the boots and belt, go for your first Sunfire Cape. Sunfire Cape deals damage every second to nearby enemies. Not only is this good versus champions, but its great for getting killing blows on minions for more money.
The reason you dont want to buy Thornmail (+100 armor, passive: returns 30% of physical damage to the attacker as magic damage) until this stage in the game is because 1. If you are attacking a tower, and another champion comes and attacks you, it registers as the 30% damage to the attacker as your assault, so the turret would destroy you. 2. Any Attack speed/damage stackers wouldnt have their speed items up to a good standard just yet *chuckles*.
So, buying Thornmail at this stage in the game provides that you already have the HP and armor required to withstand the turret.
Stacking sunfire capes after this stage is brilliant because it adds Health, Armor, and the passive damage, what more could you want? You have ridiculous amounts of health and armor, and 2 means of passive damage, on top of Shens passive (which deals damage based on your max health, and the cooldown is reduced when you are hit). Now just watch as the Attack speed/dmg/lifesteal whoars think theyre actually getting somewhere in attacking you xD
BTW: You should be able to roll casters with their pathetic health anyway lol :D
Please comment for any feedback.
Thanks, any happy ninja tanking :)
