Simple Guide to Picking Locke

By Starrymoon
Introduction

PROS

+ Straightforward
+ Safe laning
+ Strong teamfight

CONS

- Skillshot-dependent
- Relatively low-mobility
- Telegraphed
Ability Tips
Silver Stake (Passive): Though it may look appealing, attack speed isn't the best build on Locke. Your damage comes from stacking Nails.
Ritual Nails (Q): Low-width, mid-range ability, contender for one of the most difficult abilities to hit. Predict their dodges and position yourself perpendicular to their escape routes or, better yet, at a chokepoint, to narrow their options.
Soul Ignition (W): It lasts long and buffs you, use it early. You can recast it while CC'd. Max heal is based on your AP and missing health.
Ashen Pursuit (E): Both parts of your E can proc your nails, so you can use it to engage and disengage instantly. The blink can be buffered through CC, similar to Ezreal.
Purgatory (R): It takes 1.25s for your ultimate to activate after you press it, position it accordingly. The marks last long and refresh on executions. The totem lasts for the duration of the cooldown, so don't worry about picking it immediately.
Laning Phase & Skirmishes
Laning consists of aligning your Qs, if you hit, go in and force a trade, if you miss, you're not vulnerable.
It may sound counterintuitive, but weaving autos between Qs, whenever you're in range to do so, instead of hitting once at 3 stacks deal more damage. This is true at any stage of the game.
Teamfighting
Start every teamfight by using your ultimate. It is ummatched by assassins. Oftentimes, it'll win by itself. Engage with it, unlike others of the same class waiting to follow-up. Pyke's closest, but has narrower AoE and instant execution.
Don't be afraid of commiting, resetting will bail you out of anything.
Itemization

Doran's vs Seal

Every champion that can, buys Doran items. Doran's are the most cost-efficient in the game. Katarina has such a weak laning that it doesn't help her. Locke doesn't suffer from the same problem. Buy Doran's, win your lane.

First Item Options

Lich's has marginally higher damage, better tree and more interesting stats. It's up to preference. Don't buy Nashor's Tooth. If you're autoing people to death you're playing him wrong.
