Finally, Somebody with whose guide actually makes sense... I have played a TON of Zed, plus I am currently working on a build guide for Zed, and you sir, are the first person to actually have the sense of putting Mercurial Scimitar in their build. Good work.

Thanks for feedback. Of course most of build depends on situation. If there is full AD team, there is no point in buying MR items, also boots can be changed for Ninja Tabi. I will update the guide when I get some time :)

This is my first posting on MOBAFire so don't shoot me down with flames if I sound stupid. :P But I've been playing Zed near religiously the past few nights so I thought I'd be able to offer some input on building him. For one, I personally don't feel as though Hexdrink/Maw of Malmorthious are necessary items even when facing some big AP characters. In my experience I've been able to scare the living day lights out of most of those AP's with a large blast of burst damage from Razor Shuriken, so much so they deem it wise to flee. In this case I feel it may be better to try stacking some more movement speed intensive items to ensure you catch up to your prey in the event your Living Shadow is out of range or on cooldown. Phantom Dancer is 'OK' but Zed doesn't really need attack speed, he's natrually quite fast at auto-smashing and only gets the benefit of his passive every 12 seconds. Trinity Force again is good but only if you decide to drop the Frozen Mallet. This has been preferable for me as I've then been able to dedicate a full item to bolstering health/armor values such as a Warmongers which in turn lead to greater survivability. I am of course completely speaking from my own experience. I'm sure that there's a Annie or two out there that will absolutely steam roll me next time I try the same tactic. :P But it's worked well enough for me thus far.
