Introduction

Hello and welcome to SoloQ Success: Opening Builds.
This guide is just a supplement to the 2nd episode of SoloQ Success (below):

Opening Builds - AD Carry

Boots3Pots

Boots3Pots was a very popular opening in Season 2 because of
the movement speed advantage it gave.

In season 3, where all champions' base movement speed was
increased by 25 and boots lost 25 movement speed, the advantage
you gained versus someone who did not start Boots is not as significant
as it was before.

Opening with Boots3Pots is a SAFE start. Boots increases
your quality of life and you have 3 Health Potions for sustain in lane.

Champions Who Benefit from this Opening Build...

Sword2Pots

This is an aggressive opening because you sacrifice 1 Health Potion for 10 AD. It makes for easier last hitting and you can build the Long Sword into a Vampiric Scepter

It is still a SAFE start because you have Health Potions for sustain, but if you aren't careful, you could find yourself recalling sooner than you would like.

Opening Sword2Pots is a strong offensive start with low-risk.

Champions Who Benefit from this Opening Build...

Doran Blade

Doran's Blade start is not for the weak-hearted. Trade effectively and come out ahead, or fail to trade effectively and have a hard time keeping up.

Doran's Blade gives you 80HP, 10AD, and heals you for 5HP every hit. This item definitely gives you an edge if you plan to Lvl 2 All-in your lane.

Doran's Blade is a hyper aggressive opening with HIGH-RISK and HIGH REWARD.

Opening Builds - Mid

2Wards9Pots

Sight wardSight ward

OR
Sight wardSight ward

2Wards9Pots is a defensive, high-sustain start.

The two Sight Wards help track the enemy jungler and alert you of incoming ganks, and 9 Health Potions will allow you to heal a total of 1350 Health Points. If you want you can also go 7 Health Potions and 2 Mana Potions if you still want to try to poke them out of lane.

This is a VERY SAFE start, but you may have a little trouble last hitting minions.

Champions Who Benefit from this Opening Build...

Boots3Pots

Boots3Pots is a passive aggressive start.

You have Health Potions for sustain and Boots for mobility.
Getting Boots is a smart choice if your champion benefits from high mobility.

This build is SAFE but still is LOW-RISK because you don’t have an abundance of Health Potions and you don’t have Sight Wards.

Champions Who Benefit from this Opening Build...

Elixir1Ward4Pots

Sight ward

Elixir1Ward4Pots is for AD Bruisers mid only
This build is for more experienced players who are accustomed to lvl 2 All-ins.

Elixir of Fortitude gives you 15 AD, 130 HP at lvl 2, and it scales as you level for 3 minutes. You have 4 Health Potions for sustain and you have a Sight Ward to track their jungler.

Elixir1Ward4Pots is a LOW-RISK passive aggressive opening build, because you can decide during the game whether or not you will lvl 2 all-in.

2Wards9Pots

Sight wardSight ward

OR
Sight wardSight ward

2Wards9Pots is a defensive, high-sustain start.

If you are against a lane who can continuously poke you, this opening build is your best friend.
Just be wary, if your opponent decides to all-in you, you will fall short offensively.

This is a LOW-RISK start against champions who can all-in effectively, but overall , a SAFE start if you can disengage easily.

Champions Who Benefit from this Opening Build...

Cloth5Pots

Cloth5Pots is another defensive, high-sustain start.

Although you sacrifice Sight Wards, starting this way allows you to effectively fight-off an all-in by your opponent, considering a majority of his damage is physical.

This is also a LOW-RISK start considering you are open to jungle ganks without prior warning, but overall, a SAFE start

Champions Who Benefit from this Opening Build...

Elixir1Ward4Pots

Sight ward

This build is for more experienced players who are accustomed to lvl 2 All-ins.

Elixir of Fortitude gives you 15 AD, 130 HP at lvl 2, and it scales as you level for 3 minutes. You have 4 Health Potions for sustain and you have a [[Sight Ward\\ to track their jungler.

If you all-in, then the Elixir of Fortitude gives you need the extra damage to finish your enemy. If you get all-in’d the Elixir of Fortitude gives you the extra Health to survive a dive and turn the tower dive into a double kill.

This is a passive aggressive, SAFE start because you have a Sight Ward for their jungle, Health Potions for sustain, and an “Emergency Elixir” if the you find yourself in need of a little more damage or Health.

Champions Who Benefit from this Opening Build...

Sword2Pots

Sword2Pots is a build should only be considered if you are a ranged champion facing a melee champion or you plan to hard engage before you run out of potions.

The Long Sword increases your AD, improving your CS capability and the damage you deal as you auto-attack poke your lane. The draw back is only having 2 Health Potions.

Opening Builds - Jungle

Machete5Pots

The most common and efficient start is Machete5Pots

It allows for the fastest clear time and gives you enough sustain to gank once or twice before having to recall.
