Introduction

text:[/talon], one of the best ad burst heroes who can counter annoying ap heros like veigar, nidalee, katarina and etc. Its is also good against squishy ad carries like vayne, sivir, cailtyn and more.

Talon isnt really what i call an easy champ to play, so if you want a challenge take this champion up and try. You might be lousy when you first try him but gradually you become much better.

So why not read this guide and start to play this "Talent".

Pros / Cons

PROS

    Good early-mid game
Good CD skills to spam like rake
    Burst down any squishy champs
Good harrassing champ early game if you have a brutalizar

CONS

    Item depended during late game
    squishy
Get aimed first in team fights
Not that good if youre the only good summoner in the team

Abilities

Passive: Mercy

Talon deals 10% more damage with his basic attacks to any target that is slowed, stunned, immobilized, or suppressed.

Explanation:

This is a decent passive, there are lots of way better in the game tho. This isn't the most important skill on Talon, altough it's still useful.

Q: Noxian Diplomacy

Talon's next basic attack deals an additional 30/60/90/120/150 (+30% per attack damage) physical damage. If the target is a champion, the target will bleed for 18/36/54/72/90 (+120% of attack damage) physical damage over 6 seconds, revealing their location for the duration.

Cooldown 8 seconds

Cost 40 mana

Explanation:

A very nice skill, it represents around 25% of the burst I'd say. You'll max this in 2nd because this is a part of the burst, but first levels you'll more need an harass (W, which is a huge part of the burst too) than the Q.
It has a very nice AD ratio and it resets your AA, means you can hit + Q very quickly if you do well. (This combo isn't hard to master)

The bonus damage works on towers, it makes Talon one of the best pusher of the game, his Q's CD is very low, allowing Talon to push as fast as a Nasus with Q stacked.
Finally, this skill is what makes trinity such an interesting choice on Talon: push faster, burst better, and his Q cd is so low that it also makes Talon a nice dueler.

This is why I like Talon, most of AP carries/mage get raped by AD carries late game, their burst isn't good enough. It's not Talon's case: he still rapes AD carry late game if he engages correctly the fight.

Note: this skill gives sight of your target (it can always be useful), and don't underestimate the DOT, combined to ignite it deals tons of damage. (It doesn't reveal stealthed champions like akali in her fog tho)

W: Rake

Talon sends out a volley of daggers that then return back to him, dealing 30/55/80/105/130 (+60% of attack damage) physical damage every time it passes through an enemy. Additionally the enemy is slowed by 20/25/30/35/40% for 2 seconds.

Cooldown 10 seconds

Cost 45/50/55/60/65 mana

Range 750

Explanation:

Another very nice ability, once more you can use it for many situations: slowing opponents you're chasing, slowing opponents chasing you, it deals AOE damage which makes it a good spell in teamfight, great harass in laning phase (it doesn't even cost a lot of mana).
If you don't spam it all day long, you should never run out of mana.

This skill is the main part Talon's gameplay, it allows him to depush quickly to gank others lanes, just like a Sion who would depush with his shield. You can dash on a minion (a minion closer to ennemy champion than you) to increase your range on rakes.

It is also one of the best farming ability of the game, with a brutalizer and rakes lvl 5, you will instakill the three casters minions until min 10, and with your BF sword you'll instakill them almost all game long.
Harass, depush, farming, AOE damage and slow: this is why you'll max this skill first, too important in Talon's gameplay to get maxed later. (When you got bruta + BF sword, best thing to depush a wave is hitting once every melee minion, then send rakes on the whole wave, you get the 6 cs and you're ready to roam)

E: Cutthroat

Talon instantly appears behind his target, silencing them for 1 second and amplifying Talon's damage against the target by 3/6/9/12/15% for 3 seconds.

Cooldown 18/16/14/12/10 seconds

Cost 35/40/45/50/55 mana

Range 700

Explanation:

This skill is what makes Talon a true terror at mid lane, dashing on the opponent to use your Q, silencing him to send your burst before he does, and it even increases your burst by buffing your damage.

It can also be used as an escape on minions or jungler who would come from behind.
I also use it a lot to dodge my opponent skill shot, for example if you're facing a Brand, you shouldn't instantly dash on him (Except if you're fed enough to burst him down in 1sec), you should wait him to use his Q to dash, dodging it, dashing on him and silencing him at the same time. That's not the best example, but what you've to remember is that it's a good skill to dodge skillshots.

R: Shadow Assault

Talon disperses a ring of blades and gains stealth for up to 2.5 seconds, gaining 40% Movement Speed. When Talon emerges from stealth, the blades converge on his location. Every time a blade passes through an enemy, they receive 120/195/270 (+90% of attack damage) physical damage.

Cooldown 60/50/40 seconds

Cost 80/90/100 mana

Range 1000

Explanation:

Very nice ultimate, once more, this skill can be used in many situations, sometimes offensively, sometimes defensively.
This ulti is what makes different a good Talon and a bad one, a good Talon will use it more intelligently, it is actually what I like on this ulti: you can brain your opponents easily.

Something you've to remember: even used defensively, you'll still deal damage, I sometimes want to escape and get a kill with this ulti just by escaping, what else to make your opponents raging.
It is also a huge part of your burst, you shouldn't use it offensively if you're not sure to kill your target tho, this is a finisher spell, not something to harass.

General skillset: You've probably noticed that almost every spells can be used both defensively and offensively, this is why I like Talon's gameplay, it is very interesting because you always have many choices to use your spells.

Abilities Combo

Q-E-W-R
This combo is used when you know the enemy might escape because if you use E first then Q, your enemy might escape and your Q skill is sort of useless.

E-Q-W-R
The more painful combo but theres a chance the enemy might run and waste your Q

E-W-Q-R
This combo is would be also painful because he gets silenced and slowed which means his passive would make him deal greater damage and with Q on, the damage would be more too. Hardest combo too

R-W-Q-E
Only do this combo when the enemy doesnt know youre there. For example you Ulti behind the enemy so when the blades close, he will get damaged. Immediately after closing, use your W skill which is rake. Then auto attack for awhile, usually you'll be winning the fight. And if he is running use your Q and E combo to finish him. If youre losing during the auto attack period, just use the Q and E combo on him straight. This will most probably scare them.

If your combo lets them run off with a little hp to spare, that's when ignite comes in handy. Use ignite when they have a bit off hp left to get the kill.

Choosing your lane

I prefer top lane as its the lane where you can play aggressively with dual laners/ solo laner. Try to avoid getting mid lane if you're new to talon as its hard to get farm there and you'll get harassed easily. Solo mid with Talon once youre confident and well practised.(he is like the ad version of Kassadin) During early game, use rake to harass or more importantly for last hits. At level 5, you should be able to get 2 Long Swords. Now level 5 is when you harass them. Use rake on them whenever you can cause he hurts quite a lot during early.

I wouldnt suggest to jump in to get a kill til level 6 unless the enemy has a low hp. The reason being is because without your ulti, you dont have anything to escaping with and im sure no one would want to waste their flash on this. Plus the utli helps you finish off your prey who is running away.

Masteries

Those masteries up there are good. Expand mind kinda helps early game for you to spam harass your rakes on enemies.

Runes

Works very well during late game

Items

Items that you should avoid

    Guardian Angel
    Doran's blade
Any SURIVABILITY item except frozen mallet

All this items are just useless Because Talon is a guy with high damage output and SURIVABILITY items will mess him up.

Other items

Items that you can have but not at the top.

Trinity Force - This is a very good item because of it not only gives you a slow but also a 1.5x dmg from the sheen. This makes your burst high thus dealing Tons of damage to your enemy. IE or trinity Force are both good items. However I take IE is because it gives you more damage which your skills scales with.(but you wouldnt have a higher burst damage compared to a trinity force-d talon)

Mercury Threads- If youre solo-ing mid, buy this boots because youre up against a spell caster and this boots can save your ***

Maw of Malmortius- This item is good if you need more magic resist

Playing style

Talon is an assassin which means he goes around ganking early. Well it is commonly suggested by many players. And yeah i think its good too but you can also stay in lane and control it. Talon is quite a good lane control during early to mid game because of his rake.

I suggest to start ganking once you get your BF sword or bloodthirster because it will be much easier to kill them. Especially squishy champs. Always try to gank once your Ulti is available, try not to gank when you have no ulti unless youre confident enough or you have a good teammate then can help.

Best if you arrive at teamfights late because you'll usually get aimed first if youre fat. Try to be carefull with him. It is possible to get a 9/1 in a game.

WARNING!!
What most people is that they think of roaming and ganking too much and lose out of farm. Thats when you know youre in deep ****. As mentioned earlier, Talon is an Item depended guy thus losing out on farm will be a great lost during late game. Thus i suggest to stay in lane and farm till mid game. I mean unless you have a good team then you can roam and gank if not forget about it
Back to Top

Farming

For Almost any champ or ad champ try to be the top creep farm in the whole game. Because a Fat AD carry can be really scary.

Weakeness

Tanks are Talon's greatest weakness because the burst wouldnt kill them
Back to Top

What talon players suffer

You'll be called a KSER, someone who steals kills very often because you can time when to use your ultimate, use your Q skill to do it, Or even auto attacking during time fights and gangs. Youre rakes are also use to steal a whole bunch of minion waves. However you must always ignore all this people who says you KS and stuff because to Talon, EVERY KILL IS HIS!!!!!!

Summary

In conclusion, Talon is sorta OP if you play him well and Dont ever play a jungle talon coz it well suck.
