Introduction

This is my favorite tank to play as because with this build you will never ever ever die. Just give it a chance and you'll see. You don't need kills, you don't need assists, you just need to wait until you get built and you will all of a sudden realize that you've been being attacked for 15-20 seconds and are still at half hp. This is a great build for a new player to the League who may not know when to stay in a fight and when to run. The defensive capability will be very forgiving and have your opponents frustrated with how long they have to attack you before you finally die.

Runes

Huge defensive capability in the early game based on these runes. Quints could be substituted for health ones and the marks could be switched to magic penetration in order for you to give out damage as well.

Masteries

These give you huge defensive ability with as much health regeneration as possible. this is the key with Morde as he uses his health to cast spells.

Items

This build gives you an amazing amount of defense and magic resist along with cooldown reduction and MASSIVE health regeneration.
Omen gives you an AOE slow which helps with team fights and with getting away at the end of a fight.

It is important to note that you don't exactly need to have both the spirit vissage and the banchee's viel in this build. It is very acceptable to substitute either of them for a Rylai's Crystal Scepter (this will give you health and a good bit of Ability power allowing you to deal damage as a tank. This is highly advisable if you switch the marks to magic penetration). You can also add in a Warmog's Armor. This will give you a huge amount of health in place of a little bit of magic resist. I would advise taking out the banchee's viel for the warmogs as the spirit vissage will further increase the health regenration effects of your force of nature and your warmogs together. With those three items you will likely watch your health increase rapidly even as your opponents land hit after hit.

Farming

Morde is the MOST effective farmer in the game in my opinion. The AOE style attacks allow you to slice through waves of creeps in seconds and get the last hits on all of them as soon as your damage output becomes high enough to kill them outright. My technique is to start with a solid hit with E, followed by a Q hit to the first line of creeps, then use W on yourself and walk to the second line of creeps to auto attack. As soon as your abilities are off cooldown, repeat. Farming also keeps your shield up so that its harder to kill you.

Children of the Grave

Mordekaiser's Ultimate is one of the best in the game as far as I'm concerned. It heals you, deals damage both initially and over time, AND if you kill the opponent while your Ult is on them you get to bring them back on your team under your control. With this being said, ATTACK DAMAGE CHAMPIONS ARE YOUR TARGET. I can't tell you how many times my team has been loosing to a Xin Zhao or a Twisted Fate or a Yi and by just killing that one champion and bringing them back on my team we were able to score an Ace. No one every expects to have to fight the super fed AD champion on their own team. You can even control the ghost by holding down "alt" and clicking the ghost to attack towers or champions. Nothing better then having your ghost tower dive his own team for a kill. one thing to note is that before you use "alt" to control your ghost for the fist time the ghost will attack whoever you are auto attacking but after you use "alt" you have to continue to use "alt" in order to have the ghost attack who you want them to. Controlling two champions isn't too difficult but it takes some getting used to.

Ghosts are perfect for tanking towers for your team or checking corners or harassing while you move somewhere or kill creeps.

If you move too far away from your ghost it will teleport to you. This is useful for saving the ghost from being killed in a tower dive, simply have the ghost dive, and then run away from it if it looks like it's loosing and it will telly right to you.

HUGE NOTE! If you are in tower range and your ghost attacks an enemy champion, the tower will attack YOU. Don't let yourself die to the tower because of your ghost, this is never fun.

Summary

The roll of a tank is a thankless one but It's very necessary. Be agressive if you use this build. Once you have a few items built start throwing yourself at your opponents to save your teammates and be the one to innitate so that your team can come in to finish off the team. Use your ghost to deal the damage for you. your opponents spent all that gold on their items so you don't have to, you just have to seal it all from them and use it against their own team. Remember to use you AOE slow from omen and be smart about your initiations. Only go in if you have teammates to help you. You can't deal the damage, you can just take all the hits for your team. don't be afraid to take a few hit from the tower if your AD champion is with you. With the health regeneration you should be able to take a few and be back to fighting shape before too long without having to go back to the base. Remember your shield can save you as well. as you run, turning around to hit with your E may just save you from a few hits from the opposing team but be careful it doesn't allow them to catch up to you.

Good luck tanking my friend. The League needs more of you =D
