Why build Ad on Leona when all her abilities scale ap? Your not the only person I've seen do this

Reason being that her ap scalings are really bad so you don't get much value investing into ap, unless you sacrifice everything and try to make a heavy ap burst mage, in that case you are basically a heavy cc Diana with less damage.

So investing into ad gives you the ability to not sacrifice everything and still do considerable amount of damage, aka you become a bruiser.

Also AD offers way better offensive/defensive item choices if you are not looking for burst damage.

Tl;dr: going ap is only viable when only building ap and committing to burst, going ad offers better items for a bruiser play style, also I like the aa - q - aa with pta just feels good.

Ok that makes sense. would it be bad to build a zhonya's on this build? For a bit of Ap?

When use Grasp or Conqueror?

Great guide thanks ! I just have one question, why grasp and not after shock ? For more dmg and better trade ?

I put a note for the runes, saying aftershock is also viable, but it is not that strong earlygame, because the damage is low and the cooldown is high, furthermore grasp gives you alot sustain, that changes in the later stages of the game, that is where aftershock gets better than grasp, so you can take both depending on what you want, better early or better late/teamfighting.

Awesome guide man! Really great content to the guide and it's all structured well and visually appealing. Great job on the effort put into detailing all types of items to build on Leona. This is sure to help numerous Leona players. Great guide, keep it up!

I like to mix this build up with a supportive first item. It allows me to switch from supp to tank mid/late game if we lack the push.

Quick question. Why use Bandit in the masteries if you're not playing as a support?; seems like a waste.

Because you get 10 gold every time you hit your enemy (with a little cooldown tho) if you trade often, this is a nice economy boost (3 hits = 1 melee minion), its not a must have but I prefer to play with it, you can also go dangerous game.

This guide's title caught me off guard, thanks for the good laugh. I may actually give Leona top a try since it sounds reasonable with your build. :)

Glad I could bring you to play her top, feel free to report back your thought after you tried it :D

First of all, I'm glad that someone has actually posted this build. With Leona top, I usually rush titanic, and max w before q to compensate for the missing armor and mr. I'd also go for a frozen mallet over iceborn... So usually, in normal situations, my build ends up as: Titanic, boots (tabi merc trads or ionian boots) sunfire, spirit visage, warmog, frozen mallet. This guide did mention Olaf and Quinn as counters... I'm curious about champions such as riven and darius, the ones who are really broken. How would I beat them in lane? Thanks

Also, I usually start longsword to go into jaurims or tiamat. Pretty sure it does the most damage out of all her starting builds. If I'm really ahead, and we have enough tanks, I go for guinsoos.

About to experiment with hybrid top and leona jungle next...

Hmm that could also be possible, if you get some cdr in your runes, also frozen mallet is a good choice indeed, in certain situations health would be more valuable than armor. The longsword start is something I am doing too atm, since you can transition better into your items, I will add it to the guide later on.
