How to Play it Right

Early Game: The theme in mind for the first few levels (mainly all the way up until you unlock the ult at level 6) is "Play it Safe." Save your mana and only use your skills on those pesky enemy champs that won't let you farm in peace. Use your skills as an intimidation factor, slowing them with the Hail of Arrows and long-shotting with the Piercing Arrow. As soon as you get them to run, go back to farming to level up. If you get those champs that don't scare easily and they chase after you, then you have to trick them. Have a teammate hide in the bushes or pull them back close to the turret. As soon as they turn around to run the other direction back towards their turret, have your ally (works best with Malphite from personal experience) jump out and slow them/ knock them up while you use all of your skills as well (starting with the Hail of Arrows). This works best to get easy kills early on against not-so-smart customers.

Mid-Game: This stage of the game is when you're going to be from levels 6-12. By now, you have your severely unfair ult and your Zerker Greaves/ Mercury's Treads, and you can clear big distances relatively faster. This is where you're going to start getting more kills. Cut to other lanes through the jungle as often as your fellow lane-mate doesn't need your help, and try to sneak behind enemies that your allies in the other lanes are up against. Prioritize the Ult when you have it, and then starting with the Hail of Arrows, unleash your skills. You're going to find that with your boosted attack speed, attack power, and ability power, you can cut down enemies with the help of your friends fairly quickly.

Late Game: At this point, if you've played safe and you've followed this guide, it's just going to be unfair for the enemy team. In the higher levels of the game, your attack speed is going to be hitting 2.5 attacks per second (plus extra magic damage and triple-shots from Blighted Quiver and the Runaan's Hurricane item), your ability power (that is already naturally godly high for Varus) is going to be boosted quite a bit too, with an edge on top of your attack power. You'll be able to cut down the beefiest of opponents in mere moments, even in mobs, but your easiest targets are going to be loners. If you EVER see one form the enemy team on the map being an idiot and trying to solo flank or anything, sneak behind them, find some grass, jump out and unload your skills, and they can't touch you.

That's the Varus build, and I hope it proves as useful to you as it does to me!

Pros / Cons

Pros:

Middle to Late Game Powerhouse

Abilities can naturally deal heavy damage

Fast Attack Speed makes you hard to reach

Great with an ally, usually works best with a tank or offtank partner throughout entire game (Malphite works best for me)

Bonus magic damage with Blighted Quiver gives you a slight edge over any other ranged opponent

The Piercing Arrow is going to be your best friend against strays

Cons:

Squishy. So... so... squishy.

Early game weak without a partner

Naturally low attack speed (You HAVE to boost Attack Speed for this build to work, follow the item builds)

You're not going to get many kills early game, maybe even mid game if your lane can't afford to lose you (This is why partnering with a tank helps, they can hold a lane fairly easily)

Not the build for an impatient person
