I can tell you made the background differentiate from foreground, and text.

Also, for the front render of tiger stance, it kind of looks out of place not being faded away; in that case, I would personally make all of the stances unfaded.
Also, your text is just slapped on, and that is typical and fine for beginning sigs, but you need to learn how to blend it;
making it a similar color as the background, fitting it in a nice place, and using clipping mask (can GIMP do this?) all help that.

But overall, very nice first sig, you just need some practice and smaller size :) (480x175 px through 450x250 px is desirable :))

The thing about Tiger stance is, he can't be in all four at once. And, in the original, they are faded near the bottom of their individual "stances" so, it only made sense to fade them to make it a bit more clear. There were motion blurs on the phoenix flames but they got blocked off by the text and cut out at the top. Same with glows on both Bear and Phoenix stance's eyes. I thought about giving the back of all the stances a slight blur but then I thought the blur on turtle stance would be ironic.

So I made this today using a little help from Nyoike's tutorial. Rendered all of the stances out so I could do something different with each stance. Anything I could improve on overall? I have GIMP and no intention of buying/torrenting Photoshop BTW.
EDIT: Yes, it is a little big but it gets the main part in the sig when it's displayed down in the sig area.
