It's a bit... plain? Not really eye-catching, and for some reason it reminds me of the play station logo o.O
I think Jeffy has covered most.
Since it's political you want a very simplistic design, nothing fancy or anything, as the logo is a representation of your business or party etc. Your current one isn't very appealing at all, and / or eye catching, it's simple yes, but not effective. Furthermore people could easily overlook the P and also it looks like a key sometimes? not sure but if i'm a viewer thinking about this, then you've done something wrong in the design. I've noticed you've gone for the typography type logo, as Jeffy has already expressed with the example of Dell, another would be Microsoft.
here is a 1minute example of a simplistic logo that is effective that i've done just so you get a picture; notice how it's near the same as yours but overly more effective and eye catching.

now after spending 2minutes looking at this logo, i can criticize myself to the extent that i may want to redesign this particular logo. For example the T is very defined, bold and also takes a lot of attention, where as the P doesn't. Since it sa conjunctional logo with 2 tpye T&P you want both to equally be as important. one method of doing this is by splitting what defines the T. So for example:

Now even still its not perfect, and I could even now re-consider doing a totally different approach. However it's not for me to decide these, its for you.. So goodluck ;)

I never really thought about a logo with a picture but that might actually work, and i totally agree with you about it having to be simple.
