Ryze and Zhonya's Hourglass

Would it be practical for Ryze to have a Zhonya's Hourglass? I realize that Ryze is now based upon strictly mana due to the AP nerf however would it make that big a difference to have just the one item in trade for the extra survivibility. I was thinking that if the build went something like this.

Sapphire Crystal
2 pots
Tear of the Goddess
Catalyst the Protector
Rod of Ages
Sorcerer's Shoes
Zhonya's Hourglass

Thats the exact start of the highest rated Ryze build out there, so how practical is that since Ryze seems to be a focuz fire target later on in the games.

Tear -> Glacial -> BV -> FrozenH -> RoA -> AA -> Situational item like Deathcap/Thornmail/Abyssal

Rushing Rod of Ages is bad on Ryze.
AP is worthless early game, though a late-game deathcap isn't as bad.
The passive isn't a big deal either. You don't HAVE to worry because a few patches ago, they made the stats more upfront. The passive growth stats are more like sugar then necessary priorities.
Also, rushing the AP means you can't build the armor/mr that Ryze revolves around.

If you're worried about armor, grab a Frozen Heart (which you should be getting consistently anyways)

My personal build that I usually end up carrying with consists of
Tear > manamune> glacial > bv > frozen heart > situationals with boots somewhere earlier in the build. Since I have manamune I sometimes grab triforce for the all around stats and the sheen proc in-between q casts. Id probably get criticized for this build, but I only use what I find works, and I've won 95% of my games with Ryze building like that.

Using zhonyas is 2 seconds you could spend melting your target.

In my personal opinion it is better. Since I don't buy any AP items, more AD allows me to deal more damage to turrets/minions allowing for faster tower kills, and better farming. Not to mention that Manamune charges a lot faster than just a tear, allowing you to get that mana you need so badly a lot quicker. I see people just keep the Tear and not upgrade it at all, I'd rather have the bonus stats from a Manamune than just a Tear.
