If Mobafire would ask very high standards to guide quality from special guests, there is a good chance that there will not be any special guests anymore :P
Change is gooooood

It's true. People read guides for different reasons. For instance out of the three "top Thresh guides, people will go to mine or ClearDays guides first because they know we answer questions and are active on the site.

They'll go to the guest Thresh guide simply to read a challenger guide and that's the end of it. They get a few minutes of knowledge and entertainment from it, and then it's gone, because it won't be updated. Therefor, guest guides should be somewhat of just a special thing to see, rather then trying to hold them up against other guidewriters.

Not everyone knows that. Most people on Moba don't know anything about the authors (like whether they will reply or not) and they'll just click the one that appeals to them most.

@ banana, perhaps, perhaps not. Anyway, if I would get paid only the smallest sum to make guides, I would make sure it would be a masterpiece. Personally, I do not feel the quality of these guides is enough to pay them for it.

Most people that have no knowledge of this site click whichever guide is at the top. Mine appears at the top because I've been scouted (not sure if my elo has anything to do with it either, but it shouldnt because ClearDays should appear ahead of me as he's diamond.) So in reality, my guide gets more traffic than the 2 better players simply because of the listing.

These guest guides never get traffic because they dont get scouted, no one really talks about them, they are kinda... there.

I agree the quality could be increased but honestly, without advertisement they will always fail to garner views like a guide by either a high elo or widely known and active guide writer.

I must agree with you on that all, but actually having those 'paid' guides fall behind in views, is even more of a proof that they aren't well-written and shouldn't get paid.

Anyway, I guess I'm overreacting, but for me it is damn annoying to start on new guides like this...

I ignore the guest writer guides.

The main reason I do this is because the average player on Mobafire is likely Bronze/Silver/Gold. I'm teaching people how to play to the best of my abilities (which roughly gold, maybe almost plat range, my MMR is high)

A challenger guest is teaching people to play at a challenger level. He isn't really taking into account his audience when he writes it, he just writes everything to the best of his abilities, which is challenger level. Some of those things dont apply to many players that use the site regularly.

I like the guest guides in concept. It's a cool idea that with a little more moderation could be something that makes MobaFire stand out from the competition.

I don't like how little effort gets put into them. A lot of them are just copy/pasted with extremely basic and obvious information sprinkled on for the sake of plugging social media. It's annoying and defaces the value of what being a "guest" entails.

Not a single guest guide extensively covers much of anything that isn't readily available with a simple LoLKing search. It's just the same garbage blanketed under a screenshot of someone's Diamond 1 camped account.

OTG gold writers don't necessarily only cater to gold players. Silver / Bronze players will learn MUCH MORE from a challenger guide than a gold / silver guide.

The only problem with these special guest guides is that they have no effort put into them.

We need to find a way to find incentives for thse ppl to actually contribute more.
kinda hard as our site's rep sucks

Not likely to happen. Professional players and the guest writers barely have time to write the guide, let alone update or make it very advanced.

*This happens on solomid and lolking's special guest guides too.

I can understand that as being the case with professional players. I don't think any of the complaints here are directed at them - they occasionally put out a nicely tuned guide that fits the current meta and leave it at that.

There's a stark comparison between someone who is high up on the solo queue ladder and a player from CJ Frost. The players churning out these borderline spammy and poorly written guides are trying to promote their individual content, not their established team that they commit a significant bulk of their daily time to by contract. There's no excuse for bad content when you're constantly vomiting it onto the front page of MobaFire. Time is no longer an issue at that point.

I have no idea what the screening is like for these guest authors, but a certain degree of quality needs to be set in place as a pre-requisite for even having your guide get published under the title.
