I'm considering investing my small amount of influence points into armor penetration runes, and was wondering about a certain question. I'm not quite sure how to phrase the actual question itself, so I'll just give an example:
You're fighting someone who (somehow) has 0 armor, and you have, say, 20 armor penetration. Does this armor penetration simply go to waste, or is it converted into bonus damage or something of the sort?
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: First post here, so I have absolutely no idea if this is in the right section.

Penetration does not penetrate past 0 armor, so yes, it would go to waste. The only thing that would help you there is flat armor reduction from Black Cleaver or Zeke's Harbinger, or a similar source.

I'm pretty sure it goes to the waste, but you do true damage to the target because you have somehow reduced their armor to 0.

I'm not 100% postive on this, but I think that is correct.

Edit: Jebus had ninja'd me. Curses foiled again!

It goes to waste. Nobody has natural 0 Armor though. There's very few things that reduce armor though so, it shouldn't matter.

You can get your enemy to a negative values of armor and magic resist.

ArP / Mpen - will only get it to MAX 0. It will not get it below 0.

Armor Reduction and Magic resist reduction will get the target below 0.

Now the tricky part...
This is a myth that you will deal more damage with -10Armor than with 0 Armor. I saw 5375782358 ppl chattin on this issue. I personaly didnt run any tests on this one so i cant either confirm or deny the case of bonus damage below 0.
Did i help you? Click that +Rep

Negative armor will increase the physical damage taken. The problem is that armor reduction applies BEFORE armor penetration. To reach below 0 you'll need Black Cleaver and Stark's Fervor against an enemy with less than 65 armor. But most champions have more than that AND buy armor, so it's no use trying in a real game.

What a waste. Forget last whisper and go Black Cleaver.

I still dont get one thing:

#1:
The person has 100 armor

Flat APen: 50

So it'll ignore 50 armor?

#2:
The person has 100 armor

APen: 30%

100 armor = 50% dmg reduce, so it'll ignore 30% of the percentage?
