Thanks for the quick response!
I've sometimes wondered about playing more carries. I certainly do that when I'm queuing with my lower level friends, but I do it less in solo queue and in high level. I think there are two reasons for that, both stemming from my general "Minnesota Nice"-ness; one is that I actually like playing tanks and support (Zil is a blast if I'm playing him well), and two is that other people invariably want to carry more than me, so I defer. Do you think I just need to assert myself more in champ selection or something?

If your level is low, everyone on your team can be playing AD carries and come out of the game winning. If you want to play Zilean in solo queue, build almost straight AP. You will still do great damage with your Q-E-Q combo. Also, if you are a good mid pick, assert yourself, yea.
I feel like I'm getting to the point where that flies less; I'm summoner 20, and I think like you mentioned because I queue with my higher-level friend sometimes I get matched with people higher than me. I think I might just go back to what I was doing a month ago and play Nasus pretty much every game, since nobody notices me in early game and I faceroll everyone if we survive past the 30-minute mark. I do like playing my Ez though, even though I'm not the greatest. I can usually at least hold mid with him; at worst I'll lose the tower, but not before someone else on my team has already lost theirs ( :/ ). Thanks for the tips.

I'm posting this in the QQ thread, but I feel like I need some legitimate advice and not just venting. If there's a more appropriate place for this to be, please redirect me there.
So I'm a pretty new player, started two months ago or so. I really enjoyed the game for the first six weeks or so. People on solo queue are jerks, sure, but I expected that to an extent and so I felt motivated to keep going. It also helps that I have a few friends in real life who play the game, some who got me in and some that I brought in later, and we can share our experiences and queue together to take a little bit of the pressure off. Sometimes they're not around, though, and I hit the solo queue. Usually I'll do pretty poorly (unless I play my Nasus, but I've had less of an opportunity to do that since Leona hit and everyone's filling that role already), so naturally I take my share of abuse. I always try to take it in stride and apologize when called on my mistakes, not making excuses or losing my temper in chat.
Lately, though, it's been adding up on me. I dread starting the match search, and will sometimes cancel after 10 seconds or so figuring the next 30-60 minutes will probably be mostly hellish. I haven't even logged in since Tuesday, when I played a game as Zilean and did very poorly, missing several key ults which led to lost teamfights and the game. I knew that I was doing terribly and said as much, and was simply told to stfu when I expressed my regret over my poor performance. For some reason, that episode just destroyed my desire to play the game. I think part of it is that I started watching pro streams over the last week and seeing guys like Elementz, Chaox, bigfatlp and others routinely being matched with the same kinds of personalities that I had wrongly attributed to low-level play only was a demoralizing experience.
Whatever. QQ. I'm sure you guys have heard this song and dance before. If anyone has any ideas/tips/ways that they tend to deal with this sort of BS, I'd like to hear it.
If people are being real annoying ****s, /ignore :)
works like a charm
I know what you are talking about though dude
almost every ranked games I get tards like that
A few games ago this blitz kept going in fights alone and dying, making fights 4v5, and kept calling me bad since their poppy was 1 shotting me, even though he was doing worse...and when we tried to tell him something he just says stfu and the like.
Oh well, idiots will be idiots.
Lugi,
"Also, what you pick as your skill level when you first create your account determines the skill and manners of other players"
What do you mean?
League of Legends doesn't have that...you are thinking of RotT...
and tbh it doesn't really affect anything, I don't think. Maybe it tries to queue you up with similar players but idk.
Thanks to TRUeLM, Plastictree, Scrax, Xiaowiriamu, foggy12, JahGFX, jhoijhoi, msrobinson, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, MissMaw, and me :) for the sigs!
Yes I made one on EU around 2 months ago and I don't remember this...maybe I just forgot.
It prolly doesn't have much of an effect tho, maybe only at the very beginning.

I play normals because I'm an idiot.
First match, someone queue dodges because I jungled and they *****ed me out saying, "nobody's going to solo because you wanted to jungle"...
Next queue went fine.
After finishing that game, I went into another normal. Team comp looked fine. A little too squish for my tastes. Malz, Karth, Lee Sin, Tryn and me as Udyr. Everyone wanted to 1v2 top. I get a bugsplat upon starting the game. Come back in and everyone has gone th their lanes. I did fine in the jungle and nobody dies. Lee Sin went back to base at the lightest scratch but still managed to give up first blood. We find out later that he was high as ****... We proceeded to make jokes about how he ate Teemo's shrooms and such. He died a lot. I was the only one who went positive...
