I think one big thing that this site lacks that may be holding back the forum-usage is the severe lack of an "Introductions and Absences" thread.

It may not seem like much, but in my opinion, it's a great way to encourage that first forum-post.
A lot of users probably don't see a reason to post; the lack of an introductions forum probably also makes them think this forum isn't really active.

Being able to say "Hi, I'm ______ " and be welcomed by the regulars is a consistently proven way to break the ice for people who may not be comfortable with joining a new forum.

Can always just make a thread in the Matchmaking forum to introduce yourself. To say you're going away a little while (vacation, etc) just make a topic in off-topic?

@Scrax:

It's that kind of ambiguity that probably shuns potential forum-users. :/
Not everyone wants to do premades or matchmaking, so there's a bit of conflict there.

I'm looking at the matchmaking thread now.
There are a few introductions there, but they're only getting 1~3 replies at best. I may be wrong, but I'm going out on a limb here and saying the matchmaking forum, among recruiters and premaking, isn't the best place to introduce yourself.

I think there needs to be a separate thread that's simply for introductions.
Matchmaking and Introducing yourself should be separate topics, and I think activity revolving around new users would definitely go up if the latter would more independently displayed.

A lot of people don't like taking the initiative, they like being asked.

"Matchmaking
Introduce yourself! Recruit, find teams and clans, schedule matches and arrange tournaments."

"Matchmaking
Introduce yourself! Etc, etc, etc".

No, I get it. They are shy, so let's give them a push in the right direction. But I also feel it's redundant.

I kinda like it, but mainly for one other thing: It makes the FAQ more noticeable. Stickied links meant to help new members and a specific place for introductions would be helpful.

Could just rename the matchmaking forum to something like "Introductions & Matchmaking"
