Well, that's an extremely broad topic, but I will try to condense the role of a jungler, as tightly as I can.
In conclusion: A jungler is a highly flexible role, in terms of champions to pick for it, whose main purpose is to secure objectives for your team, and assist them if you are able, be it by tanking damage, locking your opponents down in CC, or by simply eliminating the biggest threat the enemy team has. This is just a very over simplified and summarized overview of jungler's role, and champions you can pick for it, however, I would be happy to expand on any of it.
What is a jungler
A jungler, in essence, is the secondary carry, tank, or even a support, depending on what your team needs, so you are supposed to be the most flexible player around, which might not work for everybody, however, above all else, you are the player who is supposed to keep yourself, and your team, focused on the objectives (That's the reason you have Smite after all). You could think of a jungler as the helmsman of the team, trying to always steer your team to victory, be it by making a call to go for Dragon/ Baron, or by ganking for teamates that are falling behind/getting those that are doing well, even more ahead. An important thing to note would be that, you are not their captain, so you can't just force your team to obey your commands, but you absolutely must try and steer them in the right direction
Basic jungle path
The most basic jungle path depends entirely on where you start. If you are starting on the blue side, start at Red buff, take it, do camp in between, other than Raptors, and take your Blue buff.
If you are starting on red side, start at your Blue buff, and repeat what you would have done on the blue side. Now, you can choose to either gank, if the enemy laners close to you are pushed close to your tower, or keep farming your jungle, this decision depends entirely on a game to game basis, so it's up to you what you should do.

Solid jungle champions
When it comes to the role of a jungler, the champion pool is extremely large, and the best champion always depends on what you need at that moment, so here's a list of good and easy picks, for each type of a champion you might need to round-out the team.
Tank: Sejuani, Rammus, Amumu.
Sejuani might be the most complicated champion on this list, however, with a bit of practice you can easily get the hang of her, she has some decent damage with amazing CC potential, assuming your team can help you utilize it fully. Her biggest draw, is the ability to catch your opponents from afar with her Glacial Prison, and her mobility with Arctic Assault.
Rammus is arguably the easiest champion on the list, and one of the easiest champions in the game. You move really fast with Powerball and you try to get Frenzying Taunt on the enemy carries.
Amumu while this guy tends to get made fun off for being the go to champion for noobs, he's actually pretty good, the fact that his kit is so easy and effective, especially against less experienced players, coupled with his ability to easily build some Magic Penetration and play the role of an AP Bruiser makes him a very versatile pick.
Bruisers/Fighters: Warwick, Jarvan IV, Vi. An important thing to note here is that you can build all of these junglers as full tanks, and with the exception of Warwick, full damage, and play them as assassins.
Warwick Probably the easiest of the three, Warwick is a bit similar to Rammus in his play style, but he can be a lot more of a damage threat to the enemy carries, as due to his immense sustain he can kill them off, if left alone. Jaws of the Beast takes a bit of practice, but once you get used to it, it can be used to fallow all sorts of movement abilities, thus ensuring that you can stick to your prey.
Jarvan IV this guy is the definition of versatile jungler, he has good base damage, good, albeit skill reliant, CC and his Cataclysm is an absolute nightmare to deal with for champions with no mobility. Truth be told, unless your team is full AD, picking Jarman is never a bad idea.
Vi okey, she might not be the easiest for newer players to pick up, due to her reliance on landing Vault Breaker, and how easily you can find yourself in a 1v5 situation, if you get too trigger happy with Cease and Desist, however, the sheer impact of the a fore mentioned ability, and it being point and click wonder, makes her a excellent pick for anyone just getting into the jungle role.
AP: Gragas, Elise, Fiddlesticks. These are the junglers I don't play too often, especially Elise, but I will try to summarize them as best as I can.
Gragas can be built as full tank or a bit more heavily on the damage side and do extremely well, mostly because of his innate tankiness, high mobility and CC. The only real drawback to this guy is that using Body Slam and Explosive Cask to their fullest, takes a lot of practice.
Elise is probably the most versatile AP jungler around, as she can be built as a tank, bruiser, or assassin and do really well. However, she is by far, the hardest champion on these lists thus far, but if you take the time to get the hang of her, she's an excellent jungler.
Fiddlesticks alright, Fiddle might seem like the Rammus or AP champions, however, he's deceptively hard to play, mostly due to Crowstorm being a channeled ability and you needing to stand still in order to cast it, however, he makes up for it, by having absolutely obscene amounts of CC and base damage. Terrify is probably one of the most ignorant abilities in league. If you decide for the jumpscare master himself, just don't forget to purchase Zhonya's Hourglass, since after Crowstorm is done channeling, you can use Zhonya and the enemies will still take damage from it.
Assassins: Nocturne, Shaco, Kha'Zix. Before we get started, an important thing to note is, none of these champions, with the exception of Nocturne, are not too new player friendly, if you build them as pure assassins.
Nocturne is probably the best champion to get you into the assassin mindset, as you can farm to 6, and gank only when Paranoia is off cooldown. Granted this is a very over simplified approach to the guy, however, it's a decent way to start.
Shaco uh, he's a very gimmicky champion, however, the power of Deceive makes him one of the easier assassins to pull off. However, if he falls behind, he can feel utterly useless. So, I highly recommend reading up on the guy, in one of the few guides that we have for him on MOBAFire, or watching some people playing him, before going in around clowning the rift.
Kha'Zix I considered leaving him off the list, since Kha is a weird one, unless you are ahead, he takes longer to assassinate people, than most assassins, the main draw to Kha being, that he can deal a lot of consistent damage, and with his evolved Leap, he can mop up teamfights, or easily get out after getting a kill on the enemy carry, which others on the list lack. While his CC is not spectacular, it's very reliable, and if push comes to shove, he can even opt to evolve his Void Spike, and play the poke game.

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your help! Maybe I should start by picking Amumu or Warwick since I have them. Again, thank you so much for answering!

May I update for newer Assassin jungler choice?
I think at the moment Kayn is really easy to play in the jungle.
May be the easiest of all assassin jungler in the game because I think he's even easier than Nocturne.
His clear speed and sustain is really good.
He has point/click ult that give him several seconds of immunity and time to think what he will do and in Shadow Assassin form its range is really good.
His Q has very high level 1 bonus flat damage against monster and it can dash through small walls.
His w also make big monsters move slower for easier kite.
