I don't understand why they didn't just let dominion sit there and do nothing with it. I mean, there is no harm into doing that and you avoid causing a huge *****torm on reddit(I have not checked reddit, but I assume there is one because reddit).
I think it's a combination of two things:
1) Riot does have to do some basic upkeep to keep Dominion working and they have to make sure new champions can capture points and stuff. This is all ignoring balance, just basic game functions.
2) Having a permanent game mode that Riot doesn't really "support" is bad for their image. Better to get rid of it than have a mode plagued with bots, imbalance issues and bugs if they aren't going to pour resources into solving these issues.
Still sad to see it go. I got to play Dominion at PAX Prime shortly before it came out and now it's gonna disappear. :(

I used to play it a lot and I really only stopped because the queue times started getting ridiculously long.
It was more that I was sometimes sitting in queue for upwards of 20 minutes for a 30 minute game, which just isn't worth it to me.
Personally, it just feels to me like Riot still can't understand the difference between changing something and improving it. They keep altering the game, roster and modes with pretenses of improvement or care. I mean, TT got a major revamp a while back and yet it still feels pretty broken in various senses, and now they're deleting a game mode because it takes up space and they don't really care for it.
Meh.

Hello everyone and welcome to another Riot news compilation post (surprise!), where we give you a quick overview of the news content created by Riot in the past couple of days. Today, we have sad news for the 0.5% of players who are active in the Dominion game mode, as it will be retiring in the (very) near future. Life's not all bad though, as we'll also make sure to share a whole bunch of content created by the League community and include some of the "regulars", such as posts about the current champion and skin sales and the weekly free champion rotation.
